Everyone enjoyed the Astronomy Quiz last month so much I thought maybe an August one might be in order!

Really it was just so I could play with Google Forms and see how they work! But enjoy anyway!

Some of it is a bit specialist but all answers are within reach of a quick search. There's a 10 minute limit.

Now an August quiz is one I get really get stuck into, August meaning 1. dignified or imposing, an august presence, 2. of noble birth or high rank, an august lineage
I think too of "August" as meaning "Aloof", and Aloof is close enough to "Aloft" for me, and if our night skies are not aloft, noble, dignified, well then, i don't know what I am talking about.
Great quiz. As noted in my next post I got 7/10.
So Graeme's influence appears to be rubbing off. July noted.

You can't play with Google Forms for Graeme's sake? Shame on you.

I just ***love*** it when someone tests something out. Means I can beat the blackcurrants out of it and try to break it in as many ways as possible. (Much easier to break something than to build something. Chaos theory, Entropy of the Universe and all that).

Anyway, I used a proven technique for passing multiple-choice exams: Choose the answers you know are correct, and for all the rest use a consistent number. In this quiz I chose answer "3" for each term I wasn't sure of. (This ensures a stable spread if the answers were positioned randomly)

Yes, I think I got distracted half way through the meanings of August by the IRSO Moon landing and missed Chris' claim to 7/10!

That's the last free astronomy quiz I enter.
Apart from anything else, my logic winning me 7/10 by the quiz-master's original rules tells me that I don't need to prove anything.

Hi Graeme; leaving aside for the moment that the first respondent would be the current leader by default (This post number 9), I suppose that this tells you something about Google Forms, to wit, that you need to capture some sort of identity.
You could keep it anonymous by asking that non-scoring question whereby the respondent volunteers a nick-name so that you can, at least, reply in public to that respondent by using their volunteered nickname.

Just something else to think about. Presumably your implementation of Google Forms is linked to UK-time so the time-stamps recorded on quiz submissions might be identified with time-zones and hence locations of submitters?

Oh good! I love conditional questions. Since I am Chris Greaves there is obviously no need for me to answer the question, so thanks, Hans, for letting me off the hook on that one.
But if every other one of our 2,433 members decides to respond it could bring down the phpBBs (i.e. 2,431 responses), then we'll know who to blame.

I'm not sure Google Forms is that clever! Or I'm not clever enough to do as you propose. The non scoring question idea would work but it looks a bit amateur since whatever name you put in it tells you you are wrong!

This all started because the astronomy forum I use has a phpBB extension (CMX Quiz) that runs a quiz but I couldn't get it to work!
