Why Remove Acrobat?

Post by BobH »

Not wanting to hijack Andy's post about setting up a new laptop . . .

In his post, Andy mentioned removing Acrobat. No one demurred; so I must show my ignorance and ask why it should not reside on one's computer.

I think he meant Acrobat Reader. He mentioned installing Foxit Reader.

Many people consider Acrobat Reader to be bloated, slow and intrusive, and prefer a more lightweight PDF viewer. Opinions differ, of course.
Best wishes,
Hans

Be careful with other PDF readers. We tried several others at work including Foxit and had some problems with all of them properly printing some PDF documents. Went back to Adobe Reader and haven't had a problem printing PDFs since. YMMV.

YMMV indeed, I have received PDF files at work that were seriously mangled when printed from Adobe Reader, while Foxit Reader printed them without a hitch...
(They were created in Adobe Acrobat, by the way...)
Best wishes,
Hans

Yes, I find Foxit Reader to be smaller, faster and less intrusive than Acrobat Reader. But I rarely print PDFs so can't really comment on the previous post.

I also use Cute PDF to save documents in this format.

Andy.

YMMV??

I didn't realise that they use km where the pedant resides

I actually spell the word 'Kilometreage', because it removes the implication of Road Rage that might come from 'Kilometrage'!!

Here, we are multicultural, so can copy with km.

BTW I use Sumatra PDF, which is very tiny, and you simply have to remove the ghastly yellowness of the default background.

Actually, I'm giving PrimoPDf Writer a whirl, rather than CutePDF, for saving documents as PDF. I can drag and drop files onto it, rather than opening the file, changing the printer, and choosing a file location.. It's kinda cool so far :fanfare:
