Hi have been trying to set up a rule (using Outlook 2010) that would;
* Print the incoming email
* Send an automatic reply / acknowledgement
* move the incoming message to a specified folder
Printing & moving the message work fine, but nothing happens with the automatic reply.
Have tried setting up a 'template' but that generated a server/client error.
Any ideas on how we could get this to work?
Rule for automatic reply

Further development;
Have managed to get this to work... once.
Seems that the rule will only work the once, then needs Outlook restart for it to work one more time.
Weird.

Outlook MVP Brian Tillman wrote
The Rules Wizard rule to "reply using a specific template" is designed to send the reply only one time to each sender during a session. This prevents Outlook from sending repetitive replies to a sender from whom you receive multiple messages.
During a session, Outlook remembers the list of users to whom it has responded. When you restart Outlook, this list is deleted and the rule is reset to start again for each sender.
Best wishes,
Hans

Thank you.
Makes me wonder the value of having this option in the 'rules'.
Would be nice if this had the option to disable this (on that defined rule).
Can this be done via VBA?
Cheers

Re: Rule for automatic reply
I don't think that's possible, but I'm not an Outlook VBA expert. But why would you want to keep on sending an automatic reply if someone sends you multiple messages during a session?
Best wishes,
Hans

Re: Rule for automatic reply
Hi Hans,
Thank you for checking.
I'm unable to go into specifics, but we have an office that receives numerous 'notification' emails, from a single source.
The staff in this office use the print-outs for organising the actions from these, as opposed to the emails.
Trouble is, they use a single computer/logon, so if a notification is seen but not needed, this can easily be missed.

Re: Rule for automatic reply
How about two rules then. One to print and move, the other to reply (and if necessary state this is the only response they'll get that day).
Or have I misunderstood?
Or have I misunderstood?
