Cell won't reference another sheet (2003 SP3)

Hi All

I have 61 sheets called emp1:emp61 on a different sheet I want to have a reference for each sheet to cell C2 all of the links work fine except the reference to the worksheet called emp2. I have =emp2!$C$2 but it gives me a #REF error everytime I try and manually enter it and when I tab out of the cell I get an ' Update Values: emp2' box open. If I change the reference to any other sheet it is fine, if I rename the sheet emp2 to anything else the same thing happens with the error. Any idea why please?

Check carefully that there isn't a space before or after the sheet name (in the sheet tab).

That must have been it but I am puzzled because all of the sheets were automatically named using the code that you kindly gave me earlier today and the list of sheet names was compilled by typing in emp1 and then simply dragging it down to emp61
