Excel "My Places"

Post by jstevens »

I am having a challenge with Excel's "My Places". This is where you're able to add a short-cut to the "My Places" bar.

I'm trying to remove a short-cut. My understanding it that one should move the mouse over the short-cut and right-click; select remove.

My challenge is that the moment I mouse over the short-cut, Excel crashes and starts up again.

Is there a registery setting that I can tweak?

Thanks,
John

The My Places bar items for Microsoft Office are stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\Open Find\Places (12.0 is for Office 2007, use 11.0 for Office 2003 and 10.0 for Office XP). Note that all Office applications share the same My Places bar, there is not a separate one for Word, Excel etc.

The StandardPlaces subkey contains the default items. They can't be removed or renamed but they can be hidden.
The UserDefinedPlaces subkey contains the custom items.

See How to customize the My Places bar in both the Open and the Save As dialog boxes in Office for detailed information.
Best wishes,
Hans
