I tested in Word 2003 SP3. When I copy the paragraph beginning with "Opportunity Crossing" or the paragraph beginning with "In addition to" from Source.doc to Target.doc, it takes on the Arial font of the target document. It doesn't matter whether I include the paragraph mark or not.
I'll test in Word 2007 SP2 later today.

I have now tested in Word 2007.
By default, Word 2007 keeps the source formatting when pasting between documents:
With this setting, copying a Normal paragraph from Source.doc to Target.doc changes the Normal style in Target.doc to Verdana.
If I select "Keep destination formatting", the pasted paragraph uses Arial, and the Normal style is unmodified.
In both cases, I can select the other option from the Paste Options dropdown.
