Alert on template icons
I'm using Office 2007. In Word, I click the Office button, then New... to open my Templates dialog box. There I notice that several of my templates (including the Normal template) have an exclamation point superimposed on the icon. What does that tell me? The templates seem to work—no obvious problems.

The templates with an ! mark are .dotm files that support embedded macros.

Oh! That's easy. Thanks, Stuart!
Does this mean the template so marked actually contains an embedded macro, or simply that it's capable of supporting same?

The latter. It is capable of supporting Macros and may contain them.Caesar3 wrote:...Does this mean the template so marked actually contains an embedded macro, or simply that it's capable of supporting same?

Re: Alert on template icons
When you save a Word document, Excel workbook or PowerPoint presentation in Office 2007, you have a choice between several formats. For example for Word 2007:
Word 97-2003 document: .doc
Word 2007 document: .docx
Word 2007 macro-enabled document: .docm
It's similar for templates, with .dot / .dotx / .dotm, respectively.

Best wishes,
