In order to secure more real estate, I want to hide the ribbon but keep the QAT. Using the "autohide ribbon" option autohides the QAT as well, which is not exactly what I want.
Is there any other option?

I think you'd need to show at least the File tab of the ribbon; this can be accomplished by writing RibbonX code, which is not trivial.
Altenratively, you could collapse the ribbon: show only the tabs:
1. shows the full ribbon.
2. shows the dropdown menu with ribbon options.
3. shows the ribbon with tabs only.

Does the "Minimize the Ribbon" option accomplish what you want? It's found in the "Customize Quick Access Toolbar" menu that opens when you click the drop-down button at the end of the QAT.
