There is a precedent for this approach: Back around 1992 I was delivering training in Word2.0. I tried to understand Styles and failed. I was asked to teach Lotus AmiPro, and learned about styles through the AmiPro reference manual. I began migrating my own documents to AmiPro format. Then I realized that the AmiPro documentation helped me understand styles, so i reverted to MS Word (and enjoy its Styles immensely; thanks Lotus!)
Today i am exploring the programming language in LibreOffice. I do so with the benefit of experience in VBA since 1997.
I found myself reading This Page with its description of Objects:-
Defines document as an object variable. Objects are a specific variable type with multiple fields (sometimes they are called properties) and actions (also they are called methods). The fields can be perceived like variables (including an object) and actions like subroutines which allow us to operate with the object.
... and began to think that it might be a good idea to read the LibreOffice documentation on "the open source LibreOffice Basic scripting language, which is an implementation of the well-known BASIC programming language" for a good general background on VBA.
Cheers, Chris
