
This is the first time I've had this issue. I've traveled with this laptop before. However, this trip it consistently took 15-20 minutes to boot if it didn't have an internet connection. Once I'd established a connection with my friend's MyFi, it was fine as long as the MyFi was on. When it wasn't, it reverted to sluggishness.
My friend didn't experience any issues with her laptop - a newer version of my Samsung Galaxy Book Pro - even when she didn't have her portable internet connection on.
When I returned home, it reconnected with our internet and booted as swiftly as ever - about 15 seconds or so. The next day Helene wiped out our internet. Every PC in our home - Win 10 and 11, two Samsung laptops, a Lenovo laptop, and a Dell desktop - exhibited the same glacial slowness booting. Again, once boot had completed, they operated as if nothing had happened.
When I had need to open a Windows 7 laptop, it booted at its normal pace and worked fine.
There are other differences between the Win 7 and all the other Win PCs besides operating system, but for the life of me I can't see a common denominator among the lazy ones.
I've done searches, but have come up with nothing that addresses this issue with any clarity. I did see an AI response with steps to disable programs that might be causing the slowdown, but nothing in that one response worked. One suggestion didn't exist. AI is not as "I" as it would like us to believe. And most advice assumed I wanted either to connect WiFi, or that my PCs were always slow rather than just when the internet isn't present.
Any suggestions on where to start on this? If Event Log is the first suggestion, I've combed through it and am more confused now than before.
