This might not be a Firefox issue but more deeply embedded in Windows.
Recently I uninstalled McAfee anti-virus from this HP workstation PC. That and other software were installed on it when I got it from a remaindering site. McAfee keeps popping up nag screens asking me to buy or install it. There are other apps that do the same thing.
What causes those pop ups when the app has been uninstalled? My guess is that there is a widget installed on the system that is activated by Firefox events, but I don't know that to be case.
Can I do anything to stop the nag screens?

In Firefox, type
about:plugins
in the address bar and press Enter. Is McAfee listed in the Extensions section? If so, remove it.

Re: How to Cancel Nag Reminders
I had to download and install Revo Uninstaller. It did find the McAfee Web Advisor. I went through the steps of uninstalling it including removing residual Registry entries.
I'll wait to see that it doesn't return before reporting success. It no longer appears in Settings > Apps nor in Task Manager.
