Re: Update: Firefox 129.0 released
Thanks for the notice, Hans.
Normally, I can detect and install updates by simply clicking the Help menu item. When that page loads Firefox automatically checks to see if there is an update and allows me to download it and install it by simply restarting the app. Today, 2 days after the release date, Fx is not seeing the availability of V.129.0.
That is strange behavior. Even stranger is the version identification (see pic). I'm running on an HP workstation system. I don't recall having installed Fx; so it must have been on it when I set it up, as was Win 11 Pro. I guess I'll download a fresh copy.

I installed a freshly downloaded copy. The Help page now looks as I remember it, showing the version number without the MSIX

Re: Update: Firefox 129.0 released
It certainly looks like Firefox MSIX came with the PC.
According to MSIX Package:
"Firefox’s built-in updater is always fully disabled in MSIX packages"

I would not have found and fixed that issue unless you had posted the reminder about V.129.
Thank you, once again, Mr. V.

Re: Update: Firefox 129.0 released
I read a lot of 'good things' about the Firefox browser which I have just now installed on my Windows 11 ... but not as my default which will for now remain Google. Unfortunately, Firefox has no page translation facility for Norwegian which means I have to use a separate Translator App.

If I understand both you and this topic:
https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/fi ... di-p/44284
correctly, then it is being worked on and you can try it out by using the 'nightly' build version of FF.

Re: Update: Firefox 129.0 released
This thread prompted me to check Fx Help to see what version I'm running. I found that it did not offer the 'check for updates' that I've grown accustomed to. Instead I see info in the screen shot.
Apparently MSIX is affecting how Fx Help works. Should I be concerned? Should I attempt to remove MSIX?

Re: Update: Firefox 129.0 released
MSIX is Microsoft's latest packaging standard, i.e. it's a new way type of installer. If you want to know more search 'msi vs msix'.
This new installer also changes the way updates are delivered, hence the MSIX version of FF doesn't have the 'check for updates' feature that you are familiar with. This doesn't mean FF won't update so you don't need to be concerned.
However, if you want familiarity then I suggest you uninstall this version of FF and then download the traditional EXE installer from this link:

Re: Update: Firefox 129.0 released
Thanks Ken for the Nightly version information link. I think I will hold off until it's incorporated in the standard browser.
Firefox is new to me so plenty I can work on in the meantime

MSIX is not installing updates so far as I can tell. You will note that it's on V.129.0 yet there is an update out. I don't know if MSIX will install the update or when. What I find disappointing is that there is no 'check for updates' option, although that might be down to Mozilla, not Windows.

Bob, did you not read my post above about MSIX and MSI/EXE?BobH wrote: ↑14 Aug 2024, 23:03MSIX is not installing updates so far as I can tell. If you want FF to behave as you are used to you, you need to uninstall the MSIX version and get the 'normal' (EXE) installer from the link I posted above or from this link:

Re: Update: Firefox 129.0 released
Yes, Ken, I read the post. What I sought in the last post was some explanation as to why MSIX is not installing updates and what I need to do about it. If MSIX is an improvement, I'd prefer to stay with it but need to understand it better.

Re: Update: Firefox 129.0 released
UPDATE:
MSIX - or Firefox - finally presented me with the option to update Firefox. I'm now on V.129.0.1.
I have no idea what triggered the offer to update; however, I DID install a Windows update a few minutes before it happened. What updating Windows might have to do with updating Firefox is one of life's mysteries, at least for me it is.
