Since I'm paranoid, and would like to reserve the right to undo a firefox upgrade for any reason, is there a way to
1) set firefox updates to be automatically installed
2) set something up which will automatically create a restore point just before doing doing the upgrade

1) Click the Hamburger menu > Settings.
Scroll down to the Firefox Updates section.
2) No idea.

Re: Restore point before upgrade
Sorry, I wasn't entirely clear. I know how to set them to update automatically. It's the " automatically do a system restore point beforehand" that I'm wondering about.

Re: Restore point before upgrade
I suspect the nearest you'll get to what you're asking for is to set Firefox to 'check for updates but let you choose to install them' and then when an update is available, manually create a restore point before installing the update.
While paranoia a good approach to many aspects of surfing the web I think you are being a bit over cautious with your approach to FF updates. I and others here, have used Firefox since version 1 both at home and in a business environment. I can't remember any upgrade to FF having such an impact that a roll back to a previous version was required.
NB I stressed business because when I was working, the client side of db system at the heart of the multi-million pound operation we used ran in Firefox. As far as I know it still runs in FF.

Re: Restore point before upgrade
I manually update Firefox, but I only do this out of a desire to update at convenient times for me. I usually update as soon as I see that the update is available, I never make a restore point, and I have never needed to roll back a Firefox update.

Re: Restore point before upgrade
If you were serious about paranoia you'd install a bigger SSD and issue a command to make a System Restore Point as one of the leading commands in your AutoExec.bat.

OK, Nephew, I tried to follow instructions in that link but was unsuccessful.
Here's a screen shot. What did I do wrong? Was I supposed to make substitutions in that string?

Re: Restore point before upgrade
Good point, Stuart.
I forgot to stress "In the Run dialog box, type cmd and then press CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER to open Command Prompt in admin/elevated mode."
Thanks, Chris
