The page isn’t redirecting properly
I'll post this in 'Firefox' because that's my default browser but I'm getting 'The page isn’t redirecting properly' when I try to reach the login page to my bank. I also get the same (too many redirects) error if I use Edge and I get the same error if I use my laptop.
I've spoken to the bank and they say it's not them, the helpful guy on the phone was able to go to the bank's home page, click on the login button and land on the login page. I'm inclined to believe him as I've also checked with my son who is overseas at the moment and he too can land on the login page without an error.
So as the problem seems to be at my end and the usual clearing cookies, toning down FF's security settings to 'Standard', restarting FF, rebooting the PC has made no difference what else could I try? Rebooting my router maybe?
Thanks,
Ken

Re: The page isn’t redirecting properly
You might try clearing the DNS cache (it will be rebuilt automatically). In a command prompt window (or terminal window), type
ipconfig /flushdns
and press Enter.
ipconfig /flushdns
and press Enter.
Best wishes,
Hans

Re: The page isn’t redirecting properly
Thanks Hans but that hasn't helped, at least not on my laptop, which is what I'm using at this instant. I'll try it on the main desktop PC later.
Any other ideas, anyone?

Ken, can you send me the link to your bank in a private message so that I can test it

Re: The page isn’t redirecting properly
More information...
If I turn OFF the wifi and turn ON mobile data on my Android phone, i.e. my phone can only reach the Internet using mobile data, then I can open Firefox, go to my bank's home page, click on 'login' and the login page loads.
If I turn ON the wifiand turn OFF mobile data on my Android phone, i.e. my phone can only reach the Internet via my router and my ISP, then I can again open FF and reach the bank home page BUT when I click on 'login' I get the 'page redirect' error.
I can get to the login pages of other banks without error. Nor have I had the error on any other page. It's just this one page that's failing.
I have rebooted my router and nothing has changed.

Re: The page isn’t redirecting properly
This redirection works fine on my Android phone, and using both Firefox and Microsoft Edge on my Windows 11 laptop. I can't open the page at all using the DuckDuckGo browser on Windows, but I could probably get it to work by reducing some of the security options.

Re: The page isn’t redirecting properly
I assume that you get your DNS servers from the router using DHCP. Can you try hard coding a well known DNS server on your Windows system (or phone) and see if that fixes this.

OK, which DNS server do you suggest?

Try one of these...
Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
OpenDNS 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
OpenDNS 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Re: The page isn’t redirecting properly
Using the Google DNS servers, restarting the laptop, clearing FF' cache and cookies (again) has made no difference. I can, again, get to the bank home page but I can't get to the login page.
I leave this for now. I'll try again tomorrow.

Re: The page isn’t redirecting properly
Which security options do you think might be preventing the page to load?
I've already tried disabling uBlock Origin, completely, not just for the page in question, and setting FF's security to 'standard'. Neither helped.

Re: The page isn’t redirecting properly
I posted this problem on my ISP's forum a few mins ago. I then tried to reach the page in question one more time and yes, you've guessed it, it's working now. I hate it when that happens.

It now works perfectly in my DuckDuckGo browser too!

I suspect that the bank changed a setting...

Re: The page isn’t redirecting properly
Probably but it's odd that other Firefox users didn't get the error...
