Unexpected results in Firefox 126.0 after Windows Updates
I allowed Windows Updates to update this morning, following which
if I click on the address bar I get a window of (seven) recent links (as text) on top of the address bar, and apparently extending above the top of the screen.
. .
Has anyone noticed anything similar, please?

Re: Unexpected results in Firefox 126.0 after Windows Updates
I installed Windows updates to Windows 11 yesterday, and updated Firefox to version 126.0, but the drop-down displays normally. Does the problem persist after rebooting?
Best wishes,
Hans

Sadly, yes it did. Also when I terminated all the tabs from Firefox to get it to close, then restarted it again.
Not being able to type anything in the address box is a real pain!

Re: Unexpected results in Firefox 126.0 after Windows Updates
My FF updated to v126 a few mins ago. I'm not seeing what you're seeing. However:
1) The May Win 11 Pro updates won't land on my laptop until about 25 May.
2) I don't see the orange 'Firefox' button that's in the top tight of your screen shot.
3) I have the Bookmarks toolbar visible, below the Address bar.
What happens if you run FF in full screen (F11)?

That orange FF button, is that not an ancient feature? Which suggests you have some sort of 'classic theme restorer' add-on installed. If that's correct, what happens if you disable that add-on?

Re: Unexpected results in Firefox 126.0 after Windows Updates
I've no idea where that orange FF button came from! And I forgot to mention that I was on Windows 10.
After quite a lot of unsuccessful and annoying faffing around , I disabled my ancient version of "Custom CSS tweaks for Firefox" (which was only used to tighten up menu lines), and things returned to 'normal' with the original widely-spaced menu items, and a general washed-out appearance. Critically, the ability to type within the address bar returned!
Thanks for suggestions and general sympathy!

If I've found the correct add-on, then the latest version was released on 12 April 2024:

What happens if you try this version?

Ken: I just came upon your reply, and can confirm that I updated to the latest version of Custom CSS for Firefox, enabled the relevant about:config setting to activate it, and All was Well Again!

Re: Unexpected results in Firefox 126.0 after Windows Updates
Glad it worked!
NB if you have a high-res monitor, i.e. something better than a 16:9 1920x1080 (or 16:10 1920x1200) monitor then I think you'll find the default wider spacing of menus etc. is OK / preferable. At least that's my experience comparing my desktop 1920x1200 monitor with the 2560x1440 panel on my laptop.

Re: Unexpected results in Firefox 126.0 after Windows Updates
I have a Dell 1920x1200 monitor, and find that some menu items can extend beyond the bottom of the screen - which is why I apply the tweak. A new monitor would be nice, but when one is in the throes of grinding poverty...!
PS where do you get a 2560x1440 laptop screen?!

At £2200 (with Windows 11 Pro), how does that meld with my stated penurious condition?

Re: Unexpected results in Firefox 126.0 after Windows Updates
From Lenovo. I used a 'build your own' option to tweak the specs of an LOQ i15HR8 and was pleasantly surprised that the price for:
* 13th gen core i7, 2.40 GHZ
* 16GB RAM
* 1TB SSD
* Nvidia RTX4050
* 100% sRGB 2560x1440 panel
came in at around £1000. That seemed a steal since all other laptops with a 100% sRGB compliant panel that I'd looked at were nearer £2000.
It's a lovely machine to use EXCEPT the battery life is dire. The sales blurb implied it would be about 5 hours, which seemed tolerable given the dedicated graphics card and the high res. panel but I never got more than 3 hours out of it and within a few weeks it was less than 2 hours. I complained and Lenovo did replace the battery under warranty. I still don't get anywhere near 5 hours but at least the battery life is more consistent now and not tailing off like it was originally.

Re: Unexpected results in Firefox 126.0 after Windows Updates
That seems a decent price for a well-specced machine!
I suspect that almost all second-hand and many new laptops are always used on mains, because of the dire life of laptop batteries.

Yes, especially as less than a year later the current nearest equivalent starts at around £1300:

and the prices rises by about another £200 when I add on the extras I chose.
