I am having challenges with reinstalling XP from scratch. I am receiving a blue screen after all the install files are loaded to memory. The message basically indicates that the program was stopped to protect my drive. The technical information was: STOP with some set of numbers/alpha. Other then this, not much to go on.
I figure is should be able to format the drive but cannot do so. Some parts of XP work just fine while other; well let's just say not so good. One more thing, this is an OEM installation.
Does someone have an alternative solution.
Thanks,
John

Re: Format C Drive; Windows XP Recovery Not Working
The numbers would be very helpful, especially the very first one.
It is possible that you need a specific driver for your boot disk. Do you have an OEM recovery disk that would enable you to restore the original factory configuration?

Re: Format C Drive; Windows XP Recovery Not Working
Bob,
Thanks for the link. It got me to thinking about the BIOS and that perhaps the hard drive was not being accessed correctly.
To make a long story short; ATA vs ASATA. Whoever setup the equipment made a hardware configuration error. Although everything has been working just fine for nearly six months.

John
