Video Compression

Hi All

I am trying to make some software video tutorials which have both screenshots and voice over but the .avi it produces is 458mb and I need to distribute this by email. I have tried AVC and I can get a reasonable quality MPEGII but that in itself is 110mb. I thought of downloading and emailing all of the users a link to free MPEG-4 player but AVC seems to refuse to convert to this.

I also thought that I would open a You Tube account which I have, set all the settings to private and upload the .avi their and it works well but when I send out invites it insists that the viewers are also You Tube members and worst of all they must all sign up with Google and have a Google email account.

Any thoughts and/or solutions will be greatfully received as I am on a bit of a time constraint with this.

Yes, I don't know why it is so large it is about 11 minutes and nothing too fancy.

Google/You Tube only allow 50 people to view a private video and I need to start with 75. I guess you can't blame them trying to capture new 'souls' for the use of free posting

As a long shot consider Bink Video by RAD Game Tools.

It will certainly reduce your massive file to something more manageable BUT the downside is that (if I remember correctly) the Bink format is propriety so end users of the Bink video would have to download and install the RAD Game Tools application before they could watch the video.

You're correct, Ken. Ordinary media players won't play .bik format, so users would need to install the free Bink player.

Also, the RAD Game Tools, it includes another (propriety) compressed codec called Smacker, which produces even smaller files.

And all for a download of a mere 1.2Mb!

Thanks for the reminder, I have the RAD tools on my old PC at home, circa 2008, it was recommended at 'the other place', I shall go and have a play this evening

But keep in mind that all your users will need to install them too, in order to view the compressed video!
