Internet Explorer 9 blocks an exceptional 99% malware

"Internet Explorer 9 is in my opinion truly fast and secure, but suffers from an image problem. It is no longer ‘in’ to use it, especially among the younger netizens. All the problems being attributed to it belong to the IE6 era and are no longer applicable to IE9. Yet IE9 carries the baggage."

IE9 is so much better than previous versions, it's too bad it's not available for XP. Gee, another reason to move to Win 7. IE9 is similar to the latest Chrome in speed and security. (seems FF is dropping behind in all categories in comparing the big 3) IE9 is default on all my PCs with Chrome an occ use browser.

Hi Ted, and Hans: thanks for the link to the earlier thread. I'd missed that.
Today I saw a couple of articles that indicated IE had leap-frogged FF et al.
Strange to think that after all these (10+?) years I might yet get/need/want to use Microsoft's browser against all others.

Given the escalating sophistication of malware, ("When Malware strikes ..") I figure that I can use all the help I can get.

(I know, I know, upgrading from FF3 would be a start ...)

When IE has AdBlocker, or something with equivalent function, then I'll be interested.

IE9 has the ability to block ads built in, you just need to import a Tracking Protection List. See Tracking Protection Lists.

I have added EasyList and TrustE from the Tracking Protection Lists quite some time ago. I see very few ads when I'm browsing using IE9.

Hadn't acted on installing 'Tracking Lists' so I thought that I would instal the couple that you have mentioned. TrustE will not install ... there seems not to be a link or their website is down?
Are these two Tracking Lists the best ones to install

If you have the EasyList one, that's probably sufficient. If you'd like a second one, I saw a positive review of PrivacyChoice, so you could try that.
Best wishes,
Hans

How do you remove a TPL (eg. EasyList) once you have added it to IE9?
Thanks,

Keith

Thanks for the pointer Ted - Couldn't actually find it under the gear icon but did under the 'Shield'. clicking on the 'shield' lead me to 'tracking protection' option which in turn brings up the 'manage add ons' menu. ............................. Ahhhhhhhhh - just noticed also that if I go to the 'gear' option I can get to the same place by selecting 'manage add ons' - thanks for the info :thankyou:

Keith
