Re: IE 9 to be available through Windows Update
Thanks, Ted!
It's good to read that users (of Windows Vista and Windows 7) will be given a choice - to install IE9, to delay installation (it will be offered again later) or to decline.
And please note that the rollout will start on the 18th of April - it will not be offered to all users at once, but gradually over the next weeks.

Re: IE 9 to be available through Windows Update
IE9 was available to me as an option via Windows Updates earlier this week with this month's Second Tuesday Patches. So I downloaded it, and put back all the toolbars which are now optional. It didn't look very exciting, the less so since I use Firefox - except for updates!
Now all I need to do is to find out how I can download the remaining 5 updates, overcoming the 800B0100 error code (supposedly related to update server congestion, but surely not for four days)...

If you were offered IE9 prior to today via WU, that should mean that you had one of the pre-RTM versions installed.

Re: IE 9 to be available through Windows Update
Does anyone have an opinion of whether or not IE9 should be installed in place of IE8?

Re: IE 9 to be available through Windows Update
"Should"? In the end that's a matter of personal preference.
I think Internet Explorer 9 has enough advantages to make it worthwhile:
- It is noticeably faster.
- It has better protection against malicious websites.
- It has support for HTML5 so that it can display effects that IE8 can't.
- Compatibility mode works well for sites that don't display correctly in IE9 (but I've hardly had to use it).

Re: IE 9 to be available through Windows Update
Thanks Hans for the reply. I only have one machine that I could install it on and I was trying to decide if I wanted to do that.

I agree with Hans, we have it on all machines and is running as designed.
