OK, thank you. I can never be sure but I don't think I use Google Photos or Google Drive.
Well, this is why I gave you the link so that you CAN find out these things!

And you will see a breakdown of what space is being used.
If you are using WhatsApp, or have an Android mobile, these too could be being backup up to your storage space.

OK, here is what I found when following the link. Also, to prove my Gmail account is entirely, I took a screenshot of all its folders. The first attachment is when I checked how much space I had left and it shows I only use Gmail. The second one is, I hope, showing my Gmail is empty.

Guess what! Look at the attachment. The 138 items is gone. Not sure what the future will bring but for now, it is accurate. I deleted the Gmail bookmark and then recreated it and it appears to have done the trick.

Well, it's an insignificant fraction of 15 GB (less than 2%).
For sure.
Also earlier I had 11 items in Gmail and it still showed nothing. Now I have 3 items and it is still showing nothing. I don't think that count is accurate at all and actually useless.
If you want all mail to remain in the primary inbox:
Click the Setting button in Gmail (the gear wheel icon).

Under Inbox type, select Default, then click Customize directly below Default.

Clear the check boxes for tabs that you don't want to see. In the screenshot above, only Primary is ticked. The Primary tab cannot be hidden.
Click Save.
Hans, maybe I am misunderstanding this but I believe I made the selections under Gmail's Settings to have all my mail remain in the Inbox. See the first attachment.
Maybe setting Gmail as I did does not make it stop emails from going to other folders, which I thought it did. That is where I may not be understanding these settings correctly. The Updates and the promotions folders both still have emails in them. Please see the second attachment.

Does setting Gmail as shown above, not stop emails from going into other folders?

Those categories always exist, but by clearing their check boxes in Settings, they are not shown as tabs in the inbox anymore.
If you collapse Categories in the left-hand pane, you won't see Social etc. there either.

Thank you. One more question. If I delete all that is in the Inbox, does it clear those categories too? Just curious for the next time I clean up my Gmail account.
Yes, Social etc. are sub-categories of Inbox. If you delete a message from Social, you also delete it from Inbox. And if you delete a message from Inbox, you also delete it from the sub-category it belonged to.

Thank you. I know I could have experimented to find out but I am trying to let the email count in my Gmail account grow to a couple hundred before I clear it out again. The reason is even though it is at around 30 messages in it now,it does not show up like that 138 items did before I deleted the bookmark and recreated it to get rid of the 138. It does not seem to want to count items at ll now. I don't really care but it just all seems strange.
