Revo Uninstaller

Post by PaulB »

Is Revo still the Lounge S/W of choice for uninstalling software?

I don't see the need for dedicated uninstaller software. I tried Revo Uninstaller once, and it tried to uninstall much more than the selected application. I removed Revo and never looked back.
Best wishes,
Hans

I never use an uninstaller either. I just let Windows uninstall products that I no longer want.

Thanks for your responses. I will try Windows baked-in uninstaller.

I am still using RevoUninstaller, mainly because I hate change(grin).
I have found that some applications (VoidTool's "Everything" is an example) are not completely removed by Revo, but this may be a feature of "Everything" rather than a failing of Revo.

If an application decides to name a file (or a registry setting) in such a way that it cannot be linked to the application, then that file or setting will not be detected (by Revo) and so will not be deleted. During the past week I spotted an application that documented preserving its user-settings across an uninstallation.

I have not tried the Windows "Uninstall" with "Everything", but Everything's developer has stated that it purposefully carries user data across an uninstall.
Cheers, Chris

Thanks, Chris. The Windows uninstaller seems to have done the job.

Unlike Stuart and Hans, I always use Revo but I do always revue the Registry entries it finds before I accept its findings. I've never had any problems with Revo.

I use Revo only if the Windows uninstaller fails. Then as @stuck does, I review what Revo wants to delete before proceeding.

Hi JoeP.
Can I interpret this as "sometimes Windows uninstaller is not as effective as Revo". And vice-versa?
Thanks, Chris

No. Sometimes, the uninstall data has been deleted and the program's uninstall routine won't work. How the data got deleted is another question. Some people prefer Revo or another third-party program because they may be more aggressive than the native uninstaller. Any leftovers from using the native uninstall are the uninstalled program's fault for incomplete uninstall parameters. Those are almost always innocuous and more irritating than anything.

I came here to start a topic about Revo Uninstaller and found this thread. I wasn't going to say anything about the way it performs but I will mention it in passing. I like the way it uninstalls a program and have been using Revo Uninstaller for years. About 4 years ago I switched to the paid version of it so I now use Revo Uninstaller Pro.

Again, I was not going to post about how it does its job. I wanted to mention that my subscription just 2 days ago came up for renewal. I renew every 2 years and I thought my current renewal covered my 6 computers but just in case, I installed the new lenience starting from my newest computer and continuing to my oldest. When I got to the sixth computer I got an error message and Revo would not install. I contacted Revo support and explained that I thought my renewal covered all my computers. However, it turned out that only 5 were covered. Revo gave me free coverage for the sixth computer, which I thought was nice of them.

I like Revo Uninstaller and have never had a problem with it.
