Problem Loging Into Lounge
Hans Is there a problem this site is having? In the last several days it has taken me at least 3 very slow attempts to actually log in. Twice now I have gotten the message you can see in the attachment. Not sure if it could be on my end or if others are having the same difficulties. Thanks

Thought you should know this too, when I tried changing pages here just now, I got the same error message you can see in my above post. Also the above post took a long time to post.

As Alan mentions, it is a known problem. It's irritating but we cannot do anything about it.
Best wishes,
Hans

First, thank you for the links.DocAElstein wrote: ↑09 Jun 2024, 10:26Just take a look at the Portal, or currennt Threads in this Lounge Matters sub forum and you can see its known about and being discussed

I followed your links and to tell you the truth, even had I seen them, I would not have associated that thread's title to the problem I was experiencing. The SQL Error just would not have registered in my mind to having a problem logging into the Lounge. Anyway, I'm happy to know it is not another problem on my end. Again, thanks for the links.

Re: Problem Loging Into Lounge
With hindsight in the same positon, probably I would have not have associated it either.
It's a bit like teaching, a good teacher is very difficult to find because once you know something, then it is very difficult to know how to word something for someone else to follow who does not know, because any explanation sounds reasonable to yourself when you already know youself.
With hindsight it would probably have been better for me to say somethimng like:
...... I suspect it might be related to these things, so perhaps not specifically related to logging in in particular. It seems that doing a lot of things causes that SQL ERROR thing just now, .... and then given the links. Otherwise it might sound a bit abrupt what I wrote, which was not intended. Sorry if it came across like that.
Always good to have feedback like this, so that I can do something similar better the next time, thanks.
Alan

Re: Problem Loging Into Lounge
It is worth bearing in mind that you probably wouldn't find this thread if you were searching thread titles that included the word 'logging'!

Re: Problem Loging Into Lounge
Quite so. I often enough suffer from using the wrong words to search in ANY forum on ANY BBS.
I now see that our situations were different.
I remain logged in to Eileen's Lounge and typically start my session with an Advanced Search. The search accesses the database using SQL, and so I see an "SQL Error" screen (as shown in this post).
You (it appears) log out and then log in; in logging in you run into the same logjam/busy-ness that thwarts me, but you are not yet initiating a search, so you probably do not see the SQL error screen.
If you had remained logged in across the days, you might have seen the SQL error screen pop up and then you would have twigged.
Likewise, were I to log out after each session and then login, I would have had logging-in problems and not the SQL error screen.
Doers that make sense?
You and I were pursuing different activities, and yet we were both thwarted by what we might describe as "busy signals".
Cheers, Chris

It does make sense. What I don't understand is how either of you remain signed in. I do not manually sign or log out yet almost every time I come here I have to sign in. Please see attachment. I don't see any option when signing in to remain signed in. I have in the past checked to box that says remember me and even though it is not checked now, I believe it does remember me since I don't have to type that information when logging in to here.ChrisGreaves wrote: ↑13 Jun 2024, 22:19Quite so. Re: Problem Loging Into Lounge
When you log in, there is a check box to specify that you want to remain logged in:
If you tick this check box, the Lounge stores this preference in a cookie on your PC. Next time you visit the Lounge, you should be logged in automatically, unless the cookie has been removed. This can happen if you set your browser to delete cookies automatically when you close it, or if you use a utility that removes cookies indiscriminately.
If you have ticked that check box but still have to log in each time, try deleting all Lounge cookies - there is a link for it at the bottom of each Lounge page:
You'll have to log in again after that.

Re: Problem Loging Into Lounge
I used the delete cookies option at the bottom of the page on my last post and it immediately logged me out. Maybe that is what you meant when you said,
I just checked the Settings of my FF's browser and I don't see where I am asking for cookies to be deleted when I exit. But that doesn't mean it isn't happening. I just have the Standard box checked and I do not clear History when exiting. Not sure if that is what is supposed to be happening but that is how it is set.
In any case, I clicked that Remember me box again, so we'll see how that works the next time I come here. You'll have to log in again after that.

Re: Problem Loging Into Lounge
This is not a Problem, but more of a puzzle to me. I have this past week changed the Firefox installation (115.12.0 esr (65bit) and copied the contents of an older Profile folder.
Now I must (1) click on the Remembered user id and then (2) click on Login, whereas for years I have been logged in automatically.
I feel confident that the Lounge has not changed.
Cheers, Chris

Have you tried deleting all Lounge cookies?

Re: Problem Loging Into Lounge
Yes; I think (but am never certain) that I did that a day or two again. So I deleted them again, and noticed as I exited Firefox that there were other Eileen's Lounge tabs open, so I sighed. Reloaded FF, logged in again to EL, deleted all cookies again, exited FF, re-loaded FF and the issue (it's not a Real Problem) is till there.
It is too hot to work outside (23c and rising), but I do have an excuse - change the position of both hoses, so ...
Cheers and Thanks. Chris
