pop!

Post by stuck »

This year, the field that we can see from the back of our house has been left to let nature do her own thing.

Wow!!!
The tree on the right of this panorama is on a road and the field on the other side of the road is as spectacular as this one.

That's taking let nature do her own thing a bit far isn't it?

That's good enough to hang on your wall!

Perhaps but I haven't got a printer capable of handling a piece of paper big enough. It's native size is about 6ft by 1ft

That's quite small for a Field, my garden's bigger than that!

Be that as it may, but back in 2017 I didn't have a printer at all, and I couldn't find a printshop in Toronto that had a seriously big printer. But in Collingwood, 75km and two hours drive north of Toronto there lived a humble, yet proud printshop with a five-foot wide, near-infinite length flatbed colour printer, any kind of paper stock you choose ...
So I emailed them my 30MB Transilien_Île-de-France_map.jpg and they printed it for me.
I didn't trust Canada Post, or a courier with my memories, so I rented a car for the day, drove up to Collingwood, drooled, and drove my baby back to Toronto.
I had to trim it down to fit a regular sheet of Masonite, but to this day I continue drooling.

Ken, I know that you don't live in Ontario, but surely England, if not Great Britain, can host such a printer?
And you will, I am sure, hold that a field of poppies is much more exciting than reliving two fantastic trips to the Île de France in 2014 and 2016.
In the broadest sense, I remain, Yours Panoramically,
Chris

Of course, I know of a place in York that could do it.

But then I'd need a wall to hang it on and there isn't a spare 6ft by 1ft in our house at the moment.

 While you are (both) in York, waiting for the print to run (it can take up to an hour, I know) check the real-estate windows.

It's an idea but our next move is likely to be a 'downsize' and that would mean even less wall space.

OK then.
How about buying your own Pullman car; gotta be 6-feet of wall space there somewhere.
Live by the motto "The Weald is my Oyster".
Or buy stables. The Weald is my Ostler
Or take up residency in a hospital close to Collingwood: The ward is my Osler.
Use your imagination (and don't depend on mine. Ever!)

This reminds me of the time we visited a craft shop having a sale. We purchased a seriously reduced (in price, I think it was marked down 90%) poster featuring the Golden Gate bridge for that space above the fireplace (where modern people put a wide screen telly).

It was only when we opened it at home and unrolled it that we realised that it was 6ft long.

It sat in our loft still rolled up until I was supplied with a bigger office at work and had an empty wall long enough to take it.

Thank you Jon.
There's a good punchline lurking there, something along the lines of "Never look a GIF, dehors, in the South", but it needs a bit of work ...'
