Improved version of Snipping Tool and Paint 3D vanished and Snipping Tool and Paint reverted back to previous/ current.

Hi
For a few weeks I have been installing some software and checking through a few things on a fairly new Windows 10 computer for a friend.
I needed to do a lot of screenshots, and I was very pleased to find that it had some improved/ extended version of the long running Windows Snipping Tool, ( and Paint. )
It appears that it is (was) a standard supplied version with Windows 10 from/ at about 2018
Here is an article that discusses its introduction : how to seamlessly pass an image from the windows 10 snipping tool to paint 3d )
Snipping tool looked like this, https://i.postimg.cc/PfzBN2Y1/Snip-To-Paint.jpg , having an extra button which placed the screenshot very conveniently middle in a version of Paint, https://i.postimg.cc/x8R771n6/Snip-In-Paint.jpg

I have a few windows 10 machines just now, some mine, some I am doing some stuff on for others. They are of different ages and versions but no others have this improved version of Snipping Tool and Paint 3D.

I was hoping I might somehow be able to put it on all my windows 10 machines or even also on all my computers.

I was using the improved version of Snipping Tool and Paint 3D constantly and it was consistently working on that one machine that had it for about a month. I found it really good. I was hoping later to investigate if I could find some way to get this on other computers. In this time the computer had been restarted many times and occasionally I was told updaters were about to be done , or were done.

But then it vanished a few days ago. Snipping Tool has reverted back to the more normal version and paint also has changed.

I know that I was still using the improved version at least a week after any shown updates in any list anywhere that I can find on the computer. And I am not offered the option to go back to the previous version of windows 10, which I have often heard said that is usually available for 10 days after any major upload. So I assume I have had no major update, at least none that it is telling me about. As far as I can tell I am not offered any re setting option other than a new install, although I am not too well clued up on navigating around these various re setting possibilities

So, the question(s)
_ Can anyone shed any light on what may have happened,
or
_ has any suggestion on how I might be able to get it back?

My Laymen guess is that by luck, or by some glitch, this improved version was still on this one machine, but then recently, some routine secret Policing by Microsoft noticed it and tanked it, - As I have only ever seen this improved version once, and because Microsoft are keen to promote their “Snip and Sketch” , so I expect they have the policy of wanting to remove any remaining versions of this nice useful version that they find still on any computers?
But possibly there is some more innocent explanation?

Thanks,
Alan

(P.S. The computer in question has version
21H1 (Build 19043.1348)
As far as I can tell this version has been on the computer for many months since its showing having had various updates related to this version since June this year.
This computer has never been fiddled with in anyway using any third party software. The owner had it from new and has even less knowledge of computing than me and has never made any attempt to change or control what Microsoft want to do with the computer, ( or us).
So it’s a completely standard machine bought from new from a reputable dealer, and used normally. )

Paint 3D is not included with Windows anymore, but you can still download it from Microsoft Store.
As far as I can tell, the old Snipping Tool is not available anymore.
Best wishes,
Hans

Paint 3D has been on my pc from new, tried it but don't like it. I use Snipping Tool, tried Sniptool.exe don't like it either
If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have NO luck at all.

Hi, - I have never had much use for paint on ist own. Snipping Tool is a very simple basic thing, but most of my screenshot requirements are very basic, so it suits me.
In an ideal World, for my requirements, a simple way to have the chance to do some simpe enhancemants sometimes would have made it perfect for me. The improved version that I stumbled across with its button for a seamless paste into a tailored paint version pretty well made it for my purposes ideal.
( I have heard some good reviews from two other tools, Greenshot and ShareX. I have those on my list of things to try out when I have the time )

I have had a bit of luck… I was getting very lost in the navigation around the „Metro-Smart Phone“ window settings „App-xxxx“ , but I noticed that you can still use the old traditonal Control Panel stuff,
https://i.postimg.cc/hvgqVQPj/Search-Co ... ows-10.jpg

I never found any useful way to get my computer back to its stand for from a few days with all the Metro window app stuff, but I do remember there is a hard to find reset thing that someone here showed me to find through the control panel, which got rid of a browser hijacker that attecked an old Vista machine of mine many years ago..
Eventually i found it again, ( on the Windows 10 machine this time ) :

Though and befold, I had a few dates offered from up to a couple of weeks since the “ vanishing“

I tried the first, - no good , then tried the second – Bingo :) :) Got it back!

( Unfortunately I need to re install some tricky to install VPN and surveilance camara software, .. but i had made a lots of nice screenshots as i went along, so that will make it a lot easier.. :) )

So I have it solved in the short term. For now I have disconnected the computer from the internet. I am not sure I know yet what the long term solution is. Unfortunataly I am a year out of date with all the De-Bloat-Anti-Big.Brother-Tame-Microsoft stuff, which i had avoided on the machines i am currently looking at, since some of them are not mine. But maybe i need to get back up to stand, for example , on this guy’s Windows taming stuff , and then re think about cleaning the machines up to hold off another Microsoft attack, assuming that they may have been the cause. I don't know for sure. Possibly there is some more innocent explanation.

I have also made some copies of this SnippingTool.exe File, from here
https://i.postimg.cc/QCbZmNHq/Snipping- ... tem-32.jpg
, to somewhere esle on my computer, for example the desktop,
https://i.postimg.cc/hvbdcYGG/Snipping- ... esktop.jpg
, and also on an external drive.

I can’t find any corresponding File for Paint, and I am wondering if maybe this improved Snipping Tool has got that paint somehow integrated in it??

If i double click on that .exe file from where it is originally stored at the system32 place then it launches normally. But if i double click on it at the places that i have copied it to then I get this message-less pop up thing.
https://i.postimg.cc/wT29c2Nd/Messageless-pop-up.jpg
I suppose the next thing to try would be to delete the SnippingTool.exe on another Windows 10 machine and replace it with this one I have copied. But I think i will leave that for a few days and quit while I am ahead.

Incidentally, I also copied the SnippingTool.exe to a cloud storage place. Here is the link in case anyone passing is interested in seeing if they can do anything with it.

I hope I can somehow get this Tool in its improved form up and runable on any machine. Its quite nice: I also noticed that after seamlessly through the button passing a screenshot to paint, you can then hit the New button on the still open snipping tool window, make a snip of the snip in paint,, pass it seamlessly to paint with the paint button, then hit the New button on the still open snipping tool window, make a snip of the snip in paint, , pass it seamlessly to paint with the paint button, then hit the New button on the still open snipping tool window, make a snip of the snip in paint, , pass it seamlessly to paint with the paint button, then hit the New button on the still open snipping tool window, make a snip of the snip in paint, , pass it seamlessly to paint with the paint button, then hit the New button on the still open snipping tool window, make a snip of the snip in paint, , pass it seamlessly to paint with the paint button, ……
Its really quite beutiful
