ExifTool

Post by BobH »

This program purports to allow users to see metadata included with various files. The file types it works with is an extensive list.

My problem is that my brain is working like a box of hammers today. I cannot figure out how to install the executable versions. I can get and see a command line function but no executable.

If anyone uses this program and can help me, I would be most grateful and appreciative. :chocciebar: :thankyou:

ExifTool is strictly a command-lime utility. It does not have a Windows interface.
See Installing ExifTool for instructions.

If you'd rather view EXIF data, search your favorite search engine for exif viewer[/url]. You'll find both online and stand-alone options.
Best wishes,
Hans

Thank you, Hans!

I was confused by the information below from the download page.

This followed an explanation about what I thought described the command line version leading me to believe that it was a typical application.

The executable is a command-line tool. It does not have a Windows interface.

(The other version requires the programming environment PERL to be installed; it is a command-line tool too)
Best wishes,
Hans

To get a GUI for ExifTool you need ExifToolGUI. There's a link to it on this page:

I don't know what has to be done to get there but I will try your suggestion.

The instructions are on the page I linked to, under the heading "Requirements and preparations".
