adding mp4 to audacity

Post by Dave Davison »

I've tried in vain to download the lame [avformat-55.dll] app that Audacity requires so as to import mp4 videos for the purpose of merging them but without any luck. My usual (dead easy) prog for merging -wisoft - has for some reason stopped completing the process. hence the need for an alternative. Even tried following one of the tutorials on You Tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx8pYUM-18k but cannot get past the point where -after downloading & installing it - I cannot locate where it is saved so the attached screenshot image does not appear. Any hints please?

The video mentions FFmpeg, not LAME. FFmpeg is for MP4, LAME is for MP3.

Thanks Hans....got that...my problem was -it seems- I was selecting the wrong link from the page of links Audacity suggested but in the end I finally achieved the goal and am now able to drag mp4 files into Audacity as required. Regards Dave

So far so good, managed to merge three videos but don't know how to "Export" the single file as a video because none of the options in the screenshot performs that function. [Only exports as audio] Tried WAV; OggVorbis; & FFmpeg. Audacity no where near as user friendly as iWisoft for this type of conversion but mine of late keeps failing half to three quarters through the process with the message "The prog encountered a fault and needs to close." Puzzled!!!!! enlightenment required please.

Audacity is purely a sound application. You can import the sound from videos, but you cannot export as a video!

Thanks Hans, will see try to contact iWisoft have to see what they can advise regarding the fault which has only just started to occur after many years of using it. Trouble is an email address is needed to send a screen shot of the fault report so must do some digging. Regards Dave.

...send a screen shot of the fault report...
Using the keywords:
    iWisoft official website
in Google, the top hit is:
http://www.easy-video-converter.com/
and from there you can get to their 'Contact us' page:
Hope this helps,

Ken
