Converting DVD to file that can be viewed in smart phone

Post by jmt356 »

When I insert my DVD and explore its contents, there are two folders: Audio_TS and Video_TS. Audio_TS is empty and Video_TS has the files shown on the attached image.

Is it possible to convert these files into an MP4 format or into some other format that can be copied to and watched on an iPhone or iPad?

There seems to be plenty of hits on Google regarding this. If you type "convert Video_TS files to MP4 for mobile" and search, you will find a number of apps (free and trial-based) to choose from. Read through a few of them and select out the one you feel can work for you. Please use your discretion when downloading and installing freeware, and avoid/skip the bundles of junkware packaged into their installers.

I do these conversions often, and would recommend the :free: program Handbrake for the job.

Hi Alan.
Does this utility convert downloaded files (say MP4 format) to DVDs that can be viewed with a TV/DVD player?
Thanks

No, it's specifically for the reverse process. If you want a DVD authoring tool, there are various :free: programs, such as here for instance.

Hi Alan. I have just become aware that Handbrake reverses the process of conversion but despite despite loading the multiple tracked DVD using the first and third option in the screen shot it only converts the first track. There is obviously something I am missing in the process, any suggestions please?

Anxious to learn what -if anything - I am doing wrong or missing in trying to convert all the tracks on a DVD rather than just the first one?

I think the reason is that the tracks on the DVD are not merged into one long file so each track has to be converted individually. Will confirm that when I find a DVD in my collection that does have multiple tracks merged. For the benefit of anyone else performing this reverse conversion from Video-TS back to mp4. Cheers Dave.
