Device Manager

Post by viking33 »

While messing around with my crippled system, I discovered a unique feature of Device Manager that I never knew about. Now, I have used DM quite a bit in the past but I thought someone else could use this feature.

I saw in DM that there was one item Yellow Flagged but named "Unknown Device" with no other info that was obvious. ( SO what was that unknown device with missing or corrupt driver? )
I found that if you right clicked the device then > properties>details, there was this long list of items that never made too much sense to me as a troubleshooting tool. But if you scroll down to "Product ID" and click it, there was a cryptic number
Copy it and go to your favorite Search Engine and look for that number. Voila!
Lots of info as regards to that number and some download links to a replacement driver. Worked like a champ for me. Mystery solved.

If your absence does not affect them, your presence didn't matter.
