There are two components – the filling and the pastry.
Prepare the filling in advance – it needs to warm slowly.
Filling: 1 cup dates, ½ cup sugar, ½ cup water.
Simmer on a low heat, mash, simmer, mash, simmer, to produce a sluggish but fluid paste.
Pastry: ½ cup shortening, ½ cup sugar, ½ cup flour, 1 cup rolled oats.

My oven is filthy.
You're looking at the cleaner side of my kitchen sink. :thankyou:

So Chris,

How was the pie; since you didn't share any of it with any of us here in the lounge?

I dunno.
Its predecessor was pretty good.
The one in the photo I gave away to a couple on Christmas day, so they also have the glass bowl.
Now I am all out of glass bowls, so I'll have to go buy some more.
I might just make a flat dough/filling/dough later in an aluminium pie plate.

Why not just make it in rice paper; then you can eat the container too.

Rice paper is as strong/robust as glass?
