Hi Dave
Thanks for all the info...

Here a summary of all my findings...

_A) Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate
http://www.wondershare.net/ad/video-con ... GwodTbkOTw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Downloaded it.
Opened it, did
Custom Install
Changed Installation path
Unchecked a participate in Customer Experience .....
Hit Install.

The last 3% took a long while but got there in the end.

I clicked on a icon near top right ( settings ) and changes a few things
WondershareSettings.JPG
http://imgur.com/Kibon35" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
_...Changed the output Format and Folder
Hit Convert, selecting Test Version – I was not clear whether you meant this one was a free version or not , ( In the end I think that “Test Version “ option was the route to “get it free” )
( An Internet Explorer Browser came up advertising along the way, so I just shut that )
I Pasted in a link to a MP4 File that I had downloaded from YouTube
When it was finished it said I needed to buy something to finish it properly. It showed two buttons to click, the Right hand side was to ”Buy”. I did not click the “Buy”. I clicked the other option to the left which said something like “Edition Open
I eventually got a WMV File where I wanted. It said it is the 1280 x 720 resolution.
Double clicking on that File did nothing for a long while, then it started OK in Windows Media Player

_.....

_B) Freemake Video Converter
http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Downloaded it
Opened it
Unclicked a “participate in improvement thing”
( a few things popped up quickly then vanished -- ?? )
Hit Further
Checked User Defined Install, before then hitting
Further
Then I had to do the important steps like my _5) and _6) from http://www.eileenslounge.com/viewtopic. ... 48#p195628" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://imgur.com/1P2Ag8J" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://imgur.com/0IBSew4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
before then clicking
Further
It then Installed
I Hit Finish
Then Start
The Window came up and I changed a few things through --- Data --- Options
FreemakeVCDataOptions.JPG
http://imgur.com/FVPRirG" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Pasted in link to a MP4 File I had downloaded from YouTube
Hit a “to WMV” icon
A window came up which allowed me to change the Title and / or output Folder – that was useful
I initially selected a remove a “Branding” thing. But then went back and left it as it was – to remove that you have to get the non free version.
Hit Convert
It asked again if I wanted to remove the branding. I Hit Continue instead
It took a very, very long time –approx 5 Hours. Not surprising that it takes so long as it makes an advertisement continuously to speed it up by buying a non free version ( Fair enough – you get what / if you pay for ! – so they probably make it take long on Purpose. Can’t complain - as Ken said, http://www.eileenslounge.com/viewtopic. ... 97#p178012" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , it is difficult to justify getting free stuff.
Eventually I got a working version again in 1280x720 resolution
(The converted Video went to the wrong Folder, and where I asked it to go a new Folder appeared – which was later not there? Maybe it will straighten itself out on another go after a reset etc. )

_.......

_C) iWisoft Free Video Converter
http://www.iwisoft.com/videoconverter/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Hit Free Download
Then again
Hit Free Download
Could not get anywhere on my old Aspire4810TZG 4GB RAM Computer Operating system Vista – it kept erroring saying it took too long to get a Reply from download.iwisoft.com
Tried on a fairly new Windows 7 64 Bit 4GB RAM Computer ( which was doing nothing else at the time ) – same error again. I tried a few times, always got:-
32Bit Vista 4GB RAM Computer iwisoft23bitVista.jpg
http://imgur.com/Dbn46UD" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

64Bit Win7 4GB RAM Computer iwisoftTimeOut64BitWin7.JPG
http://imgur.com/REUQfJ8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So got nowhere with that one. Our Internet line is pretty old and slow here in the desolate Bavarian Hills, - possibly that is the problem...

_....

Those I got working all come out at the resolution of 1280x720. That is usable for me but not ideal. I am only interested in converting YouTube learn Videos from MP4 to WMV for Windows Media player. I let learn videos run sometimes on an Old LG 120 Notebook using Windows Media Player at night. It either helps me fall asleep or uses the time more usefully if I cannot sleep, Lol... Somehow the 1080 x 1920 seems to suit the Screen very well. But it is no big deal, 1280x720 is usable.

I Really should not have deleted my Koyote Video Converter. It was Bullet proof and did just wanted. But having next to no computer experience outside a couple of self taught years in VBA, I got a bit nervous when it was shown as a potential risk. It took a long while as well, but not longer than these alternatives and did in that time the full 1080 x 1920 resolution. Actually it is still offered as a free Download at lots of sites. I try them from time to time, but the result is always one of two things.
Either
At some point you do not get further unless you agree to install something totally different , - so I always abort there:
Or
It says it cannot make an internet connection ( at the same time I have Google, Emails etc all working so it is not my internet connection that is at fault )
( I also dropped a reply/ question on the Softronic Question Forum but got no reply )

But it is good to have some alternatives, sorry for the late response – my Old computer takes a while with these things! :(

Clearly if you are careful what you check and uncheck then you can get a Video Converter from several sources. But always worth a good virus check after as well.

If anyone in the future stumbles on a reliable Video converter that converts to 1080 x 1920 resolution WMV then maybe they will drop a note in.

Thanks again

Alan

Re: Any Video Converter

Still on this subject of converting / editing videos, using Freemakevideoconverter, numerous short videos I download (average about 20 mins each) have the same -approx 1 minute- introduction which I clip then merge into one compliation of about 90 mins. Iv'e been using iWisoft but it is time consuming so I perused you Tube and discover that using Freemake is much quicker BUT after specifying the cut points & clicking the "OK" button I can't locate where the file is saved. Any suggestions please. :scratch: :thankyou: Dave.

Is there an entry called something like "Options" or "Preferences" under either the File or Edit menus?
If you can access some sort of options dialog, there should be an option to specify default file save location.

You could also do a search in File (or Windows) Explorer for a video with a name you know exists...and see if you can locate it that way.

Thanks Rudi...........under File there is in fact an "Options" tab with a Temporary Folder as shown below BUT it does not appear on the desktop nor does a "Search" find it. The only way it seems to clip a video is to complete the "Conversion" sequence which is what iWisoft does so the alternative is of little gain it seems. Regards Dave.

Dodgy secret Folder paths .. ???

Post by Doc.AElstein »

Hi Dave,
I noted in my post _..
http://www.eileenslounge.com/viewtopic. ... 26#p195671" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
_.. that something weird went on with B) Freemake Video Converter.. I changed the default path.. but then it went to some weird place instead. Where I asked it to go was an enpty Folder which then mysteriously disappeared. ( As you noted it says it is a "Tempory Folder)" I have seen this sort of thing before. Where it goes to is a place that I have never been able to find. It seems to be some secret place on my computer that some things I downloaded sends things to. . A bit unnerving really. So there could be something naughty going on then. If I remember I took some option to show it in that folder where it was at the end of converting. Then copied it from there and put it where I wanted. I really should have noted then where that mysterious Folder was. I think I did sometimes in the past. I could not find where I noted it down just now, but I will take another look. If I ever find it I will let you know

Ying Tong Tiiddly ~~ Fi Foe Did I do

Post by Doc.AElstein »

Hi Dave
I just tried downloading something with Freemake Video Converter. First I changed the Path through
_ -- File – Options -- General as you showed in your screen Shot. But then it suggested a different one when I tried to do a convert
ChangeWhereItGoes.JPG
http://imgur.com/ybPDli9" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
ChangeWhereItGoes.JPG
So I changed it back.

Then I converted. At the end I chose the option “Show in folder
ShowInFolder.jpg
http://imgur.com/d7JOVMr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
ShowInFolder.JPG

This time It went where I wanted it to
WhereIWantedIt.JPG
http://imgur.com/2y7oHZc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
WhereIWantedIt.JPG

???? so I do not understand that ?? I am puzzled

BUT

I just found out a couple of the “secret” locations where I noted that things had previously vanished to
For two different computers:

Computer 1
C:\Users\Elston\AppData\Local\Temp\

Computer 2
C:\Users\elston\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\13Y6X3AO\

Alan

P.s.
By the way I am so dumb.. I never realised it downloaded as well. Previously I had downloaded with something else then pasted the link to the downloaded File into the Freemake Video Converter before Converting. This time I pasted the URL Link to the You Tube video directly into Freemake Video Converter, then changed the path and then hit convert and it downloaded it dead quickly first, before converting it. So I learnt something there :)

P.s. here the important Video I downloaded successfully !!

Crop It with Freemake Video Converter - then CutD

Post by Doc.AElstein »

_A ) Crop It with Freemake Video Converter, FVC, - Only if you pay Matey ;) :(
_B) ..Wondershare Video Converter, WVC will only do anything for money…:(
_C) ....But FVC and Windows Movie Maker may get you there. :)

Hello, _..
Dave Davison wrote:.. Freemake . much quicker BUT after specifying the cut points & clicking the "OK" button can't locate file is saved. suggestions please. …
_.. So I thought I would have a go
Plan A)

The short answer seems to be. :
Hitting OK seems to do nothing. You have to convert again. Then it works, and the File is easy to find :) – But they only do a third of the conversion unless you cough up the Dough, CutD !

The Full Story:

So I started again ….
Double click FVC, icon, which appeared after the download last week:
http://www.eileenslounge.com/viewtopic. ... 20#p195671" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
_..I get a FVC Window popped up. I call that Window 1
I Copy a URL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xa-y5RjL1vg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ( Some Culture from Sebastian Bach )
Paste the URL in the opened FVC Window ( Window 1 )
Hit
__to WMV
at bottom of FVC Window.

A WMV output parameters Window comes up , so – I change Save to Path, and hit
Convert.

Select the left hand Button,_..
__Continue
_..( and not Remove branding as that says CutD.. )
Download takes a few minutes. I have not seen where this might go. But at 50 % Total progress the download is complete and it starts converting. At the same time a .wmv File of 0KB size appears in the Folder path I chose. If I refresh the Explorer window of that Folder then I see that the file increases in size. Convert time is very slow ( I suspect the long time is partly on purpose to encourage you to CutD)
( As they also try to encourage you to CutD in order to remove the start and stop “Branding” then I expect cropping those off is designed to be difficult… …)

After the conversion it appears where I wanted it
GogAndFriendsJPG.jpg
http://imgur.com/VCOzFfU" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

so I Close the “download Complete” Window (declining again to CulD )

Click on the Downloaded Converted “Song” ( that is still there), select
EdIt Button, then

Edit from the drop down list….. then strange..
An Internet explorer pops up and the video starts playing ?? ( At the same time a note at the bottom says FVC is ready to use and gives me the option to activate it or not…, so
Hit
Activate, and close the Internet Browser
Try again. Browser comes up and Video plays again.. ?????
Oh Poo !

So
_1) I try right click on the selected file in the Folder browser and
_2) select either Convert or Brennen, ….now I am getting somewhere and have a window in which I can select Edit. ( Window 2 ) ( But just before that I note I have the chance to change my Path again,
:2b) so I do…...
ChangePathFVCPlayWindowJPG.jpg
http://imgur.com/uahiIgt" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )
Now I select
_3) Edit ( Window 3 )
Then I have what looks familiar and I can think about coping off that “Sponsored by freemake,com “BrandingSplash” thing”
OpenWithFVCEdit_1_2_3JPG.jpg
http://imgur.com/RFi7tYN" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So I play around with the Editor and appear to have cropped off those start and stop “Sponsored by freemak,com “BrandingSplash” things”
CropWithEditorOKJPG
http://imgur.com/LSM4c3l" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But I have no idea where it goes…_..

_....HMM maybe it has not yet gone anywhere…
I try to Convert again. .. a window pops up telling me again the wonderful advantages of buying. I click the left Button instead to
Continue.
The thing starts converting.. this time in this new Window 2
Window_2ConvertingJPG.jpg
http://imgur.com/VSf4D7P" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

After it finishes it says it only converted 1 third of the Video and says I have CultD to complete the full video – I don’t fall for that one, and just hit the left hand Button instead:
BuyToFinish_NotOnYourNellyJPG.jpg
http://imgur.com/JS3xEyE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I check my Folder. I have a second File, but less than half the size_…
OnlyGotAThirdJPG.jpg
http://imgur.com/JS3xEyE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

_... so initially it appears they won’t let you do it ???
I opened it ( With Windows Movie Player ). The start is cropped off :) – But I only have the first third of the Video :(

So it would appear you cannot crop bits off with Freemake Video Converter unless you pay !! At least that was the case when I tried it.

_.__________________
Plan B
How about a crop with WVC Ultimate then….

Double click the icon which appeared after the download last week as discussed last week
http://www.eileenslounge.com/viewtopic. ... 20#p195671" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
_.. I get Window 1 and copy and paste the URL or drag Sebastian Bach into the Window.. I thought this time I would drag him in – well he is a big lad – he can take it
DragSebInJPG.jpg
http://imgur.com/ECaimwf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I check the Output Folder – looks OK in this case, and I have an Edit to select so I do do that
Hit Edit

A second window, looking very similar to the FVC second window, Window 2[/U , pops up ( and I did not get an Internet browser popping up like with FVC )

Play around with the editor to crop start and stop Bits, and Hit OK. As with FVC appears not to do anything.
CropWithEditorOKJPG
http://imgur.com/LSM4c3l" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So try
Convert again
Surprise surprise, at the end you only get a Third again ( but cropped off start )
WVCOnlyAThirdJPG.jpg
http://imgur.com/ho0AAGM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I also noticed that for an un cropped WVC download and conversion you only get a third. So it is worse than FVC

_...

So it would appear

_1) .. If you crop you have to pay. For WVC and FVC, which seem to be very similar Software – ( In fact the start and stop “Branding” bit on is the same on both convertors ) :(

( _2) I noticed something new and good here for me - If I use these “Convertors” to both Download and Convert, then I do in fact get my originally wanted 1920 x 1080 conversion :) _ I can only get it all with FVC, and I have to live with the “branding“ )

_3) Answer the Thread, a bit…
Doc.AElstein wrote:...Anyone got any recent experience on this or any other free converters?
It would be nice to have an alternative, especially if it did the WMV in the full ( maximum I think ) resolution of 1080 x 1920..
_..YES
_A) Check out the last few Posts here and use FVC to get a WMV Video. That’s it… but.. if you want to crop off any “Branding try this:
Plan C)
_C) Open Windows Movie Maker. It comes with Vista_...
WindowsMovieMakerVistaJPG.jpg
http://imgur.com/0akH6m6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
_..and you can download it free from Microsoft for Windows 7
https://support.microsoft.com/de-de/hel ... r-download" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can use that , amongst other things to crop http://ccm.net/faq/9784-cut-your-videos ... ovie-maker" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Alan

PS: Don’t forget Sebastian Bach…..
You Tube: http://listenonrepeat.com/watch/?v=ivFY ... member_You" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

WMV 1920x1080: ( FVC Download and Convert ) https://app.box.com/s/1xlai5qx6no3r3zr2n394ycqpe9wb7bm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

“ “Unbranded” , converted from The Windows Movie Player “ “
:( -.. ( I could not upload the Full Movie, as it is too big for the File sharing Site I use )

Re: Any Video Converter - Any Video Converter

Post by Doc.AElstein »

Hi
I thought I was finished here, having tried to answer the cropping question, - I was using the FVC and WVC in the last post above. Having reviewed the Thread complete I thought I would revisit the Any Video Converter, AVC, just as a last comparison,

I had looked initially in detail at it here
http://www.eileenslounge.com/viewtopic. ... 97#p195628" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
( That had worked well for me but I had the resolution 1280 x 720 and not the full 1080 x 1920 which I wanted.. ) … but I just wanted to check again in light of the last developments.

So
AVC Any Video Converter

So double click on the icon I have after downloading following the various advice in the first few posts of this Thread, and my post http://www.eileenslounge.com/viewtopic. ... 97#p195628" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This time I pasted a You Tube URL to a Sebastian Bach song directly in

Trying to select my output is a Puzzle to me. I want a .wmv for Windows Media Player with as big a resolution as possible. But I seem to have a lot of options ??
AVCwmvOptionsJPG.jpg http://imgur.com/rRoM23G" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I went through them all and noticed that the resolution after selection was often different. So it was worth a second look as I can select a User Defined wmv output. This was the main thing I had been looking for from the start.
AVCwmv1234res1920x1080.JPG http://imgur.com/tGnb61c" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I notice this time I have the option to crop. I am not sure I have any start and stop “Branding” rubbish to get rid of, but just for completeness, I took a look .
I hit the scissors icon in the Ribbon of the pasted in URL Link, and found it easy to crop:
AVCCrop.jpg http://imgur.com/0CnJzy9" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Then I get a second Ribbon nicely showing that I have a cropped version of the original..
AVCFullandCropped.JPG http://imgur.com/BRtIHdx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So I select the second cropped ribbon and Hit
Convert,
but it started doing something to the Full version.
So I stopped with the Red Button and was about to delete the first ribbon by selecting the X in the first Full Ribbon, but then it started converting the cropped version anyway. So I left it to it
It showed a progression bar but did not say if it was doing downloading or converting. I guess it must do both somehow

I forgot to change the default path of where it is going. But it is clearly shown:
AVCWhersItGoing.jpg http://imgur.com/MirYMOF" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
( If you hit the Options Wheel towards the top right of the original window then you can easily change the Paths
AVCChangePaths.jpg http://imgur.com/iGWv7x2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )

But I note that at the end it added another “WMV” Folder and put it there:
AVCWhersItWMVWent.JPG http://imgur.com/iylpMBP" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So there I have it:
Doc.AElstein wrote:..Anyone got any recent more up to date experience on this or any other free converters?

YES: Check this thread out
http://www.eileenslounge.com/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=22897" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and in particular this Post:
http://www.eileenslounge.com/viewtopic. ... 46#p196446" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There you get it:
Skid Row - I Remember YouAVCSeg0.wmv UnBranded, Cropped, WMV 1920x1080 https://app.box.com/s/ly85lrjj5zmj4mq84ufuo99oquxmzbnr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Glad I took a last look :)
