Licence Plates

Anyone can find the solutions to these two riddles, using Google....
However, both solutions scattered around the web (IMHO) are very unclear?!

Can anyone *clarify* the answers please?

1. The License Plate on my car is ML8-ML8. What is the color and model of my car?
2. A car has a licence plate: T-A-N 2-7-0. What make of car is the license plate attached to?

1. From Alice in Wonderland:

So the car is a white VW Rabbit - the name in the USA and Canada for the car known elsewhere as VW Golf.

2. Mathematics:

The tangent of 270 degrees does not exist, or in other words, it is infinity.
So the car is a Nissan Infiniti car.

I was not aware that the VW Golf was called a rabbit in the USA?
The solution I read to the second one was quite cryptic and here too, I did not relate it to a model of car called and Infiniti. (We don't have that model here in RSA).
