Programs and Features

Post by jstevens »

I have a laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium and when I try to see what programs are installed under Control Panel>Program and Features nothing happens i.e. the laptop just hangs.

Your suggestions are appreciated.

John

See if the steps outlined by Mark L. Ferguson in "Programs and Features" dialog hangs up help to find a solution.

Hans,

When I try to enter "RegEdit" I encounter an error message:
C:\Windows\System32\clb.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

I ran "RegEdit" as Admin and encountered the error message.

Malewarebytes Anti-Maleware did not come up with any virus. I am running Windows Defender now to see if there are challenges.

When it rains it pours....

John

Try this:

Press Windows key+R to open the Run dialog. Enter the following:

sfc /scannow

and press Enter or click OK. This will search for corrupted Windows files and try to repair them.
Best wishes,
Hans

I fear that your Windows installation is seriously messed up. You might try performing a System Restore to before the time the problems started. This won't affect your documents but it will remove programs that you installed since the restore point was made.

Or How to automatically repair Windows Vista using Startup Repair.
Best wishes,
Hans
