Problem accessing HP site

Post by Leif »

I am trying to access the HP site to download a driver for an aging but still working Laserjet 2100m.

I can locate the correct selection page at HP: HP Support, Drivers, Contact and Help Forums | HP® Support, select the right printer, but when I click on the link:
x.jpg
which leads to: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pa ... duct=14916" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I get a "The connection was reset" message. This is using both Firefox and IE, and various PC's, and over the last three hours.

Anyone got a clue as to why this should be happening?

Google Chrome can't load the page either:

It looks like HP removed (or misplaced) the page...

I get a page with the following:

Connection reset by peer
Description: Connection reset by peer

You may need to resort to locating a driver using Google... :groan:

I'm wary of downloading drivers from other sites than that of the manufacturer - sites offering free driver downloads aren't always dependable, to put it mildly.

Thanks Hans et al, looks like it is not a local network or security issue which I feared. I too am wary of non-official driver-download sites!

I've registered a problem on their support forum, and meanwhile found a post that suggested downloading the HP Print and Scan Doctor
The HP Print and Scan Doctor was designed by HP to provide users with the troubleshooting and problem solving features needed to resolve many common problems experienced with HP print and scan products connected to Windows-based computers
Downloaded and ran it fine, except that when it gets to the point that I need to download the installer, it gives me a link to a page that can't be found....

There was a time when I could have forwarded this thread to the person in charge of http://www.hp.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, but sadly I can't do that any more.

Don't think that didn't cross my mind

I've left various bits of feedback, let's see what happens. Thanks all!

I had an old but still quite functional HP LaserJet - don't recall the model number - but HP dropped support for it. They did not update the driver for Win 7 and later. I gave it to a friend still running XP.

I suspect that your LaserJet might have suffered the same fate.

According to the last post on this page, a driver for Windows 7 is available through Windows update.

Thanks John, but as the gods would have it today, "Windows was unable to get a list of printers from Windows Update. Please try again later."

I did pass this issue on to someone I know in HP, and I have just received an email telling me that these links are now fixed.

I just tried helping someone find HP printer drivers today - this morning Central Time USA. What a horrible experience. The site was extremely slow with many pages not loading, many broken links, and very slow load times on the pages that were found.

I recently had pretty much the same experience trying to download a new printer driver from HP. When i finally did get it, it was a huge file and loaded with a lot of extras that I did not want. Can't they just supply the driver itself without all the other stuff? :groan:
