Update: FastStone Image Viewer 4.9 released

Post by HansV »

Faststone has released version 4.9 of its *free* image viewer (and editor).

New/improved:
  • Added "Design and Print" (press Alt+P), which allows you to print multiple images with text and effects on one page
  • Improved "Adjust Curves". Now you can click and drag in image to adjust the curves directly. Endpoints of the curves are adjustable
  • Added "Print Size" option to the Resize tab of the batch convert tool
  • Added support of video files to the batch rename tool
  • Added "Auto-Resize" option to the image-scanning tool
  • Added "Show in Google Maps" and "Show in Google Earth" buttons to the “Image Properties” window. These buttons will be visible if the image has GPS information
  • Many other small improvements and bug fixes
Download from FastStone Image Viewer.
Best wishes,
Hans

Hi Hans
Looks a good piece of kit..
I was looking for a utility which would import images from a camera or iPhone when they are connected without all the user interface this software provides.
There is the camera wizard in XP and a better version in Windows 7 but hoping for a universal solution with the minimal interface. Nothing too fancy but the ability to specify a destination for the imported images.

I would be grateful if any members know a utility for this purpose.

Regards
Cheers ...

Dave.

Try Google's Picasa, even my wife can use it (he says in an alarmingly dismissive manner).

However, for a truly minimalist way of transferring images from camera to PC:
1) buy a card reader
2) plug it into your PC
3) remove the memory card from the camera
4) insert it into the card reader
5) the card will appear as another drive on your PC
6) use Explorer to copy and paste the .jpgs to your pictures folder.
Job done.

NB if you shoot RAW as well as then copy those files off the cards as well (If you don't understand what a RAW file is then you don't shoot RAW so ignore that bit)

Hi Ken

Thanks for the advise, not quite what I was after but grateful.
I was trying to steer away from a full application as the utility would be used by our staff both on the workshop floor and within the offices.
We're running xp and 7 so wanted a universal minimalist utility that would just recognise the camera when its plugged in and import to a designated drive. We have many types of camera which all come with different software packages and card readers all over the place.

It would just make things a little simpler.

Cheers ...
