A search for this topic brought up the page "windows explorer not updating last modified date w11" at https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... f24171082e wherein I read:-
The column labelled Date in Explorer is a "smart" property. It will show Date taken if it exists in the file, otherwise, it will typically fall back to showing Date created. Enable the column Date modified in your Explorer view and compare that to what you see xplorer2. It should match.

My situation: I have been making repeated edits to a file "T:\BATLap\LapWallP.BAT" which rotates my desktop wallpaper as part of my boot script. I am having problems with the batch file, but when I use Explorer to look at T:\BATLap\, the file is nowhere to be seen when I sort on the modified date. Everything of course shows it instantly
Since around 1989 every version of Windows that I have installed has provided a Date, or perhaps a Date Modified column as a default column in Explorer (along with Name, Size and I think Type).
In Win11 File Explorer the Date column defers to what I suppose are images files from cameras. In the image above note that "Date" has given me Date Created - BECAUSE THE BATCH FILE IS NOT AN IMAGE FROM A CAMERA!
And all this time y'all have been thinking that I was crazy!
The dopiness of MSoft's operating system is inversely proportional to the number of "smarts" that replace traditional means.

Windows file date attributes have been hit and miss for as long as I can remember, i.e. I don't think your problems have anything to do with Windows 11.

Re: "win11 file explorer doesn't update modified date"
Hi Ken, and thanks for the comment.
I went from Win7 to Win11, skipping Win 10, and I didn't notice this "Date" vs "Date Modified" on the Win7 machines. It's for that reason that I assumed it was Win11.
I remember reading RoboCopy.doc, I think it was, Windows 2003 perhaps, that "Date Last Accessed" was a bit of a misnomer because basically any backup program (COPY, XCopy, RoboCopy etc ) that accessed the file-entry to check for the Archive bit was considered to have accessed the file.
I could be wrong, but that idea stuck in my mind.
Cheers, Chris

Re: "win11 file explorer doesn't update modified date"
I am not sure what happened but when I tried to ask Chris a question quoting his initial post< I got this error message from the lounge and could not make a post:
Next, I'd like to know what happened that the lounge gave me the error message and would not allow the post to be submitted.
Thanks.
I'm not going to try to quote his post again but hope he can read my question for him from the above attachment.Next, I'd like to know what happened that the lounge gave me the error message and would not allow the post to be submitted.
Thanks.

Was there a long time between the moment you started that reply and the moment you tried to submit it? That would cause this error. Usually, it will be posted when you click Submit again
Best wishes,

I got a similar 'invalid form' error when trying to reply to a post earlier today. It hadn't taken me long to compose the reply. I put the error down to the ongoing 'invasion of the bots' problem because after about the third attempt at submitting it I was crashed out of The Lounge and couldn't log in again, because I got the same invalid form error when I entered my login details.

Re: "win11 file explorer doesn't update modified date"
Thanks for the reply. Actually the time between composing and try to post was very short. I could not post after trying a few times and even creating the one I finally posted. I closed out Eileen's and it was closed for around 2 1/2 hours. When I came back, I was then able to post. I still hope Chris can see the question I asked him.stuck wrote: ↑13 Apr 2025, 15:57I got a similar 'invalid form' error when trying to reply to a post earlier today. I'm going to try this a different way; Chris Greaves you said:
I had never even gave that a thought but now that you mention it, I am wondering how you got that from reading what you quoted above from Les Ferch's post. For those of you who have been wondering why Eileen's Lounge doesn't allow us to type words like !@#$%^& and )(*&^%$#@! - now you know!
