Since updating Windows 10 a couple days ago what appears in the red box showed up on my taskbar. Please see attachment. I don't know what it is or how to get rid of it. How can I remove it from the taskbar?
Thanks

Re: Taskbar After Latest Win 10 Updates
It is called News and Interests. Right-click it, or right-click any empty part of the taskbar.
Select News and Interests > Turn Off.
Select News and Interests > Turn Off.
Best wishes,
Hans

Right click the little ^ icon, select News and Interests, select Turn Off:

Re: Taskbar After Latest Win 10 Updates
Hmm, when i right-click on an empty part of the task bar, the menu that appears shows neither "News and interests' nor 'Show Cortana button'. All other items show up. Have I been short-changed by 21H1?

Paul

Apparently
But seriously:
But seriously:
"News and interests on the Windows taskbar will begin rolling out to customers over the next several weeks," said Aaron Woodman, Windows Marketing General Manager at Microsoft.
"We are taking a phased and measured approach and broad availability will occur in the coming months."

Re: Taskbar After Latest Win 10 Updates
So does this mean that I can expect it to appear on my other computers and may not be able to get rid of it as easily as I did today using yours and Leif's instructions? I hope I don't get into the situation PaulB describes.HansV wrote: ↑29 May 2021, 18:00Apparently

When "News and interests" appears on your other computers, you will be able to disable it by selecting Turn Off.
Before the time it appears, there is nothing to turn off, obviously.

Re: Taskbar After Latest Win 10 Updates
I guess I misunderstood PaulB. I thought he had the "News and interests" showing and couldn't turn it off. Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks, Hans. I thought it was 21H1 that was being rolled out in phases, not its individual components. Silly me.

Paul

In hindsight, I guess my post could have been more clear.

Re: Taskbar After Latest Win 10 Updates
It's both: 21H1 is rolled out gradually, as all "feature updates" (although this is a very minor one).
Separately, "News and interests" is being rolled out gradually to users of both 20H2 and 21H1.
Best wishes,
Hans
