Windows search is not searching PDF contents

Post by jmt356 »

I have a folder on my C drive that is set to be Indexed through Windows search. Under Indexing Options | Advanced | File types, I have Index Properties and File Contents selected. However, when I search the folder in question, my PDFs only turn up in the search results if I search for a word in the PDF's file name. If the term is in the contents of the PDF but not in the file name, then it does not turn up in the search. How can I get PDFs whose contents are responsive to my search to turn up in my search results?
Regards,

JMT

Apparently you need a PDF IFilter which is made available when you install an app that can work with PDF files.

See here for a short list.
See here for instructions to enable this option.

One must remember that MOST pdf's are images and not searchable.
To be searchable, one must prepare them to be searchable.

A caveat to start - I am running an insider preview build of Windows 10. However, I do not think that makes a difference in this case.

I believe DaveA may be onto the issue. I can search content in PDF files and have not installed a separate iFilter for PDFs.
