File History wasn't working. I had 2 File History backup folders; Office1 and Office1 (2). No idea how that happened. (2) is the latest but hasn't backed up for many months. Nothing I tried worked, so in desperation I deleted the folder Office1 (pretty old back ups anyway) and renamed Office1 (2) to Office1. FH now can't reconnect to that renamed backup drive, and won't allow me to select it (see attached), nor to select another backup folder. i would like to avoid selecting another backup folder as it would immediately backup over 200 odd gigs that are already backed up. But if I absolutely have to then I guess I have no choice.
HELP!
Cannot get File History to connect with backup drive

Re: Cannot get File History to connect with backup drive
Have you tried renaming it back to what it originally was? "Office1 (2)"
Sorry I can't help more.
I'm still on Win 7, and I use a different backup system, so no experience with the Win 10 system.

Re: Cannot get File History to connect with backup drive
Have you tried disabling file history, re-booting, and re-enabling file history?
Is the File History drive a USB drive?

Re: Cannot get File History to connect with backup drive
Turned FH off, rebooted. However FH would not turn on.
Renamed FH folder to Office1 (2) for the second time and it worked. Go figure.
FH is a REALLY GOOD concept. When it works it is wonderful and has saved my butt repeatedly. But the key words are "when it works". FH is terribly fragile and just decides to not work on a whim. When it stops working, that's it, it doesn't start up again, nor does it notify the user. So I am left none the wiser, until I need to resurrect a file.
Come on Microsoft, you can do better than this.

If you use hibernation or sleep modes check your power settings for all your USB hubs and devices. Make sure that Windows does not turn them off.

Re: Cannot get File History to connect with backup drive
Good thought Joe, but computer never put to sleep nor into hibernation. All I do is have the monitor turn off after 15 mins.
