Windows 10 Fall Creators Update now available

Post by John Gray »

For the exceptionally-enthusiastic-to-try-new-software among us, the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is now available for download, either as a direct update, or to a USB Flash drive or as an ISO file for burning either to a DVD or 8 GB Flash Drive (for safety). My 64-bit Pro version is 3,642,032,128 bytes in size.

You might want to read the relevant TechRadar article first...

Here is a gloriously comprehensive list of changes (from HowTo Geek) for this new update.

Happy experimenting with these new features...

John, the Windows Update Assistant tells me that the Creators Update (not the Fall Creators Update) is the latest and greatest, and that I already have it.
I tried it on a laptop and on a desktop.
Best wishes,
Hans

Ah - looks as though the TechRadar article was a bit premature, then...
I just downloaded the proffered ISO; I haven't tried to install it yet.

To be fair, that Microsoft webpage says "Windows 10 Creators Update now available".

Now that it's past noon Redmond time, the update started when I checked Windows Update. It's currently downloading. Better make a backup now...

The update took about 75 minutes on my desktop; the first half of that time I could continue working. First impression: not much change, visually.
Best wishes,
Hans

I'm wondering how long to leave this before I give up and go to bed. The display hasn't change for nearly 15 minutes!

I started the process around 4:35 p.m and the download stalled after 24 minutes at the 81% mark for about 40 minutes. My choice was to abort or let it ride. I decided to let it ride since I figured the MS web site was jammed.

It finally finished the download and started the Prepare to Install. After about 12 minutes it aborted with an error code 0x80d02002. It gave me the option to wait for another day or retry now. I elected the latter. The process went smoothly from there and after a few expected restarts and configuration steps, the update was successfully completed.

I have used Classic Start Menu since the introduction of Win10. One of the first tasks that popped up was a message from CSM that a new system was installed and it needed to configure itself. That took about 30 seconds and all is well.

From start to finish the total process took 2 hours and 27 minutes. If I back out about 1 hour of wasted time the overall process took about 90 minutes.

WRT the error message, a search of the Internet had many hits but nothing that helped.

I left mine to run overnight and it was ready for a reboot in the morning.

AFTER Windows had installed this update, I had to manually run Windows Update again to get the Internet Explorer update for Adobe Flash. I recommend everyone does another "Check for updates" when the creators update has been installed.

I got two updates after the big one: a Windows update from build 16299.15 to build 16299.19, and the Flash update.

Hans

The size of the Fall Creators Update ISO for Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit, is 3,811,835,904 bytes, some 4.7% larger than the previous major Update.

My Windows Update showed this being downloaded this morning ... then after some time it 'failed'. A subsequent check of available updates shows that I am 'up to date'
Is this a waiting game for update to sort itself out or should I do something to make it happen.

Been away, making a nuisance of myself in Japan, Australia and Singapore (retirement privileges  ) and upon return and booting up W10 this update was installed. No issues so far.
