"OK, notify me when ready." How long will it be?

Post by jswedlund »

Hi,
I have a Windows 7.1 HP laptop with an i7 Intel processor and plenty of RAM and hard drive space. I was receiving nags from the Get Windows 10 icon in my notification area until a week or so ago and I kept closing out because I didn't have the time then to go through the upgrade. Now I do have the time but the window keeps offering me only the options of "OK, notify me when ready" and "More Information."
How long should I expect to have to wait? Is there something that I have set on my system by continually postponing the upgrade that now prevents the upgrade from running?

See if the steps here will help....

If your absence does not affect them, your presence didn't matter.

Thanks for the tip, Rudi. I'm a bit apprehensive, though, about doing the first step, which says to delete all the files in the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download.

You could just move them to a temporary folder.
The advice provided was documented in 2 other articles on two different sites for the same process. I doubt its "bad" info, but rather safe than sorry.

That's a good idea! I'll try that, but later, I'm in the middle of something again.
Thanks for your help.

It is important that you make a complete backup of your system before beginning the upgrade process.

Try the "do it manually link in the article. It will lead you to use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool.
