Can anyone tell me how to permanently change the settings for Microsoft Photos.
I use Adobe Lightroom and have thousands of photos managed and catalogued there. I do not want Win 10 anywhere near the management of my photos.
I changed the Sources setting in "Microsoft Photos" to remove the "My Pictures" folder, and it seems that for a while this works.
However when checking again later I discover that MS had re-instated the "My Pictures" folder. (This has happened several times). I have no idea when or how this happens, just that it does.
I know I can change the location of "my pictures" to an empty folder, but I then loose the other benefits of having "my pictures". I also could un-install "Photos", but why should I? It isn't a bad viewer, but I just want to use it as a viewer.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks
Colin

Re: Microsoft photos - settings
Does Adobe Lightroom have options to make it the default program for handling pictures?

I don't believe it has anything like that. Double clicking any (basic) image from Win explorer in the past would open the photo viewer, now "Photos", and there is no preference in Lightroom to change anything like that, besides, Lightroom is not a viewer - you still want an app/prog like "Photos" to view when not in Lightroom.

The settings for source folders are being re-set to include "My Pictures".
I do not want "my Pictures to be a source for "photos"

Re: Microsoft photos - settings
It means that my PC is creating a catalog of some 50,0000 images which is never going to be used. This must have an overhead, it also requires backing up, when it is simply not wanted or needed.
MS lets me change the source folders, but then it changes them back somehow.

I guess you'll have to live with it or uninstall Photos and get another picture viewer...

Or, contact your friendly MS Windows 10 support group?colmac wrote:It means that my PC is creating a catalog of some 50,0000 images which is never going to be used. This must have an overhead, it also requires backing up, when it is simply not wanted or needed.

Good luck, there.
