Problems with Outlook after installing Windows 10?

Post by HansV »

Although upgrading to Windows 10 is a smooth experience for many users, some report problems with Microsoft Office, in particular with Microsoft Outlook.

Here are two useful web pages with workarounds and solutions:

In the Answers forum, we've been tracking an issue in which the OneDrive service in Windows 10 removes the profile's Modify and Write permissions to the entire Documents folder on every reboot [BUG]Windows 10 OneDrive.... This has two immediately noticeable problems: Outlook won't start because it can't open the PST file, and none of the Office programs can save files anywhere in the Documents tree.

The issue has been reported to the Microsoft Office team, and we're told that they're working on it. Meanwhile, the workaround is to disable OneDrive and then reapply Full Control permissions to the Documents folder and its contents. This goes somewhat beyond the instructions in the "Windows 10 and Outlook" article. The Answers thread includes suggestions to remove the OneDrive local folder, but I'm reluctant to do that.
