Desktop Calender

Post by viking33 »

How do I get rid of the Desktop Calendar that shows up in the upper left corner of Desktop? I think my brain is numb after that problem I described in Security Forum.

I've never seen that, and I can't find anything in my Start menu that displays such a calendar.
Can you see in Task Manager which app(lication) it is?
Best wishes,
Hans

I haven't seen this in Win10 either. Could it be a vestige of your Security Forum problem?

Paul

I could well be a vestige of that horror scene that I hopefully got rid of in Win 10?
I'm using Win 7 right now but I'll have to take another look when I'm over in 10.
Do you know if AUTORUNS prog will work in Win 10?

Tried a look at Autoruns in W10, worked OK but I didn't see anything that appeared to be about that mysterious calendar thing?
I thought it may have come from "Classic Shell" that makes the W10 Start Menu look like W7. I uninstalled it, rebooted and reinstalled it but that thing is still there.

Any other ideas? Beyond Firefox, Thunderbird and CCleaner, I haven't installed other programs.

Are you sure you haven't installed anything else? I'm fairly sure that it's not native to Windows 10.

None that I can see during a quick scan of options.

What happens if you right click on the calendar? Does it bring up a sub menu showing something like Properties?

Bob

No, it shows the same sub menu as you would get if R/C anywhere else on the desktop. L/C does nothing. Like a ghost Sidebar or Gadget except you can't get anything out of it, just a calendar showing the correct date.
I think I have looked at every installed app, trying to find any mention or option to dump this.
Did a basic scan through the Reg and found nothing that seems to pertain here. Maybe if I had an idea of searching in a more specific location?

Do the Processes or Details tab of Task Manager provide a clue?

Is it possible that it is built in to a desktop theme? (I know, grasping at straws)

I GOT RID OF IT !
It was a hidden option in Webshots. ( a third party wallpaper changer.) I've used this for a long time, going back to Win95. It does NOT show up anyplace but buried in the depths of it's set up file, and I've never enabled it in other versions. Didn't even know it was there!
Emailed to the authors, letting them know how I feel about this thing.

Thanks to all for your input. :joy:
