Manage Google Account

Post by RonH »

I have 'released' my Android Tablet to my lady and got a new one for myself. No rude comments please

Deleted my Google Account from tablet and installed her Google Account instead. All works well including her account synch except that Chrome wants to continue with my Bookmarks  even though it is synch to her new account. I have checked that Chrome is synch to her account. Taking a look at 'My Devices' the tablet was also still listed so after deactivating it I rechecked ... no change even after a number of tablet reboots.
Back to My Account I tried to delete the tablet but this does not seem possible ... none of the advice I can find on the web are helpful.
Any ideas please.

I think you would be best to do a complete factory reset on the device, rather than just log out of one Google account and log in to another

The problem with factory resets is that you loose added apps and gain apps you deleted etc ... I think
1. Do you also loose all the numerous system and security updates from the initial boot up; in this tablet this was 2013 (top tab though, even today)

Just now the tab has added my lady's pc Bookmarks and I have removed mine. Seems when you delete a Google Account from a device it still retains past Chrome Bookmarks, though not now synch to deleted account.

I will see what develops next few days but would appreciate your comment ref 1. above.
Thanks Stuart for your guidence

If you reset the tablet to factory state, all system updates will be gone, but they should be reinstalled automatically.
Best wishes,

Thanks Hans,
Pretty good that they can reinstall so many system & security updates on a 6 year old device. Since it now seems to be 'correct' I will hang fire and hope all well.

I have often done a factory reset on an old phone that I was giving to someone else. The phones always download all the missing updates in an hour or two and work just fine. You will lose any apps that you have added, but when they log into their Google account it should offer them any apps that they have bought from that account.

Thanks for tip Stuart. At our Internet speed it will take many hours but I will reset should any problems occur. Seem to spend much of my life these days on 'toys' but as a very senior... why not :innocent:

See if How to Remove Device From Google Account helps with the device.

As far as the bookmarks go, first I'd back up the bookmarks, then I'd log out of the google account, re-boot, then I'd delete all the bookmarks, then log back into the google account. See what happens. You can always restore the bookmark backup if necessary.

Thanks Joe.
As confirmed above I have now resolved the Bookmarks, though your method would have proved easier :thankyou:

Regards removing a device from My Account, the only 'Remove' I could find was a facility to disconnect the device from My Account though it is stays listed in my devices. Your link states: Now your device has been disconnected or removed from your Google Account, disconnected I think is the operative word. There is a lot of discussion on the web about this. Stuart recommends Factory Reset which is the best procedure ... I was trying what I thought would be an easy process given that the tab is still 'in the family' so to speak.

But 'I got a result' the hard way and all is well. In the highly unlikely event the tablet is given to non family then I will definitely factory reset.

Another recently purchased tablet is being returned to exchange for an alternative tab. I have deleted my account from tab and completed a factory reset. As a further safeguard I subsequently changed my Google Acct password. Does this ensure that all my personal data including Chrome Bookmarks are fully protected from any access on this tab ... I'm thinking about pc 'issues' where the deleted HD personal info can be recovered using specialist equipment

Interestingly, even though I have taken all above action, if I go to My account on my windows pc the old devices are still listed ... but shown as Signed Out. It seems that there is no way to remove these devices.

I suspect that some data could be recovered from the memory chips using specialized equipment, but I very much doubt that this is a significant risk - unless you have stored your secret spy information on the phone and someone suspects you
