Blocking calls

Post by RonH »

For information...
I get irritated when receiving calls from private number with no caller identification, though I realise some companies use this feature for various legitimate reasons.

I have always thought such calls could not be blocked but I have been wrong. It's easy to do:
In Android, use these steps how to block private numbers:
Open the dialer app
Click on 3 dots
Tap Settings
Just click on block numbers
Swipe Block unknown/private numbers

My phone is a Pixel so best check if you do not have the same settings.

Thanks for this post, Ron.
Calls with unknown caller ID have long been a bane for me. I never looked to see if they could be blocked on my iPhone. They can.
Silence unknown callers: Settings > Phone > Silence Unknown Callers > move slider to on/green.

Now, if I see a phone number I don't recognize - and I'm not expecting a call from someone whose number is not in my contacts list - I send the call to voice messaging. Now, I won't even see those calls. All calls with numbers not in my contact list will go to voice messaging. At least that's the way it's supposed to work. I'll get back to you if that turns out not to be the case.

Is there a way to block SMS (text) messages from sources not in one's contacts list? Hmmm. More research required.

Again, thank you, Ron.

UPDATE: SMS messages from sources not in one's contacts list can be done on an iPhone; however, those messages are sent to a third party for response (at least that was my option) which could be a problem for sensitive information like OTPs and bank codes, etc. I haven't enable the option because I frequently have to receive OTPs as part of 2-party ID for logins.
