Since installing Windows updates to my computer about a week ago, two pop-ups are constantly simultaneously popping up on my screen:
- On the right, a black strip along the right of my screen appears with the following options: Search, Share, Start, Devices, Settings
- On the bottom left of my screen, a window pops up showing the time.
I do not want these tabs to pop up at all. If I want to know the time, I can look at the bottom right of my screen. If I want to search, I can go to the Start menu. If I want to go tot the Start menu, I can press the Windows button.
These are my questions:
1. What am I doing to cause these tabs to pop up? I know that when I move my mouse to the bottom right corner of my screen, Search, Share, Start, Devices and Settings pop up with a transparent background, but I can often be moving my mousing anywhere on the screen when they pop up with a black background with the time and date simultaneously popping up on the bottom left.
2. How do I disable these pop-ups from popping up?

Re: Disable Search, Share, Start, Devices, Settings & Time t
I just discovered the answer to my first question. These tabs appear whenever I swipe from the right on my touchpad.
Now the outstanding question is how to disable this feature.

Re: Disable Search, Share, Start, Devices, Settings & Time t
When I right-click on the Taskbar and choose Properties, there is no Navigation tab; the only available tabs are Taskbar, Jump Lists and Toolbars.

Perhaps the instructions are for Windows 8.1 (you should really update to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10). Does the following work for you? How to Disable Charms Bar Hint in Windows 8?
Best wishes,
Hans

Re: Disable Search, Share, Start, Devices, Settings & Time t
I completed the steps, but the Charms bars are still activated.
I thought the problem might be with Step 3 (create a new DWORD DisableCharmsHint and set its value to 1) because the DWORD is for 32-bit Value, but I am running a 64-bit system. So then I instead tried to create a new QWORD DisableCharmsHint instead, but this too did not succeed in disabling the Charms bars.
I will see about upgrading to Windows 8.1.

Re: Disable Search, Share, Start, Devices, Settings & Time t
It should be a DWORD value for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows.
Best wishes,
