What part of "I just leave them where they fall," didn't you understand?
I still have 45 cartons of books to read before June 2026.

And what about the part about producing more tubers? And probably more compost.

I know cannas, so I'm definitely not confused. A view of another part of my back yard:

I'm not sure that many people in the Lounge would get your reference - a former Queensland state leader and peanut farmer. I can't say any more without getting into politics, which wouldn't be appreciated in here.

I'm not sure what it is about peanut farmers, like the late Jimmy Carter.

It also seems that fruit trees are not a topic for discussion here. So don't mention fruit trees. Especially not the sorts of fruit trees you can grow in sunny Queensland.

And he won't mention the sorts of trees which can be grown in Nova Scotia

You did that on purpose, didn't you? Waited until mid-day, chose a patch where the concrete was dazzling white, stooped low to get that mass of leaves which are sheltering hundreds of buds ...

You have been warned!

I wouldn't stoop so low! I took it from standing position!

The sunshine is included to make Hans envious. It is summer here, if course. Though it has mostly been a wet week, with several days of rain forecast for the coming week. All ideal for the garden actually.

Of course not. In general we can state that Newfound land is 1,000+ Km from Nova Scotia. My house is 1,400 Km from Halifax NS. Is Brisbane a suburb of Melbourne?

Speaking of fruit trees: Four weeks ago I made an estimate of the number of fruit trees in Bonavista, based on my seven-minute walk to the Post Office. I extrapolated the number of fruiting apple trees I knew by a simple ratio of my path to what I believe to be the total number of Km of roads and lanes here, assumed a 200 pound yield per tree (like a 3-bushell sack of wheat), and came up with 20 to 40 tons of apples.
That means almost fifteen one-pound jar of apples puree per resident, man, woman, and child living here.
Cheers, Chris

Apologies for my bad geography.

The only part of Canada I've ever visited is BC, and that was briefly.

Geoff, you are even smarter than I had credited
Did you get as far as Telegraph Creek (speaking of geography)?
I met the family that ran the Hudson's Bay Lodge up there, but they lived ten kilometres downriver at Glenora. They had an impressive vegetable garden.

For the first time in 18 years, I finally have a yard big enough for a vegetable garden.
I have mentioned dandelions elsewhere in these topics so there is little point in repeating myself.
I have come close to considering a 4'x4' plot in my 24'x20' raised bed set aside specifically for dandelions.
That I have NOT pursued this lies in the fact that I cut my grass only once or twice a year. For about eight months of the year, even on this gale-thrashed rock, I can harvest dandelion leaves for my cold salads and hot vegetable dishes.

I would encourage ALL gardeners to (a) avoid weed killer sprays and other poisons and (b) recognize dandelions as much more than a pretty flower that you tolerate for a week or so and then mulch.
Cheers, Chris
