Oven Timers

Post by ChrisGreaves »

About four years I bought a little kitchen timer, digital, little battery, LCD screen. Not bad.

I used it for timing cooking, a reminder when it was time to empty the washing-machine; a reminder that the VHS tape dubbing was nearing the end, and so on. When the battery ran down I bought a replacement battery, and when that battery ran down I bought a replacement battery, and when that battery ran down I bought a replacement battery, and when ... well, you get the idea.

Enough!

I am going back to the hand-wound clockwork timers.
Time is time, right, whether we measure it by clockwork or by $10 battery (with disposal problems etc)

My oven has a built in clockwork timer which is handy for the less exact countdown. I use it from time to time.
If I need a more accurate timer, I use my iPhone.

Rudi

Just because I'm old-fashioned enough to look up words like "Luddite" in my huge hard-back dictionary, doesn't make me a Luddite.
Given its weight, though, I'd be OK with Luggite :groan: :flee:

I have a timer on the stove and a timer on the microwave. But the one I use the most is a small digital timer which I bought several years ago. It cost about $6 and I use it almost every day. I replace the battery about every two years, but I certainly haven't paid anywhere near $10 for a small alkaline AAA cell.

Thanks Rebel.
The battery cell is less than 1cm diameter, circular.
I'm guessing every year because I've been buying a replacement in the PATH below Sheraton Hotel.
Probably not the smartest place to get a bargain, I admit.

I'm pretty sure I've been replacing it every 12 months or so; nothing like each two years.

P.S. You don't suppose the Nickel component is cheaper where you live?

I use the timer built into the oven, so powered by the electrical outlet.

I NEVER use a timer. I wait until the backing has finished before taking the dish out. It's called experience, I don't even check my watch. (Being a textile dyer originally, I've learned how to measure time without instruments, some 50 years ago that is)
Cheers, Claude.

You perform a backup each time you prepare something in the oven?

Whenever you make some backups of your baking, I'll be happy to store them :yum: for you... with a cup of tea.

Rudi
