Re: Cake vs. Pie
I'm fond of (dark) chocolate, so it's a toss-up between the German Chocolate cake and the Black Forest cake for me...
Best wishes,
Hans

Re: Cake vs. Pie
I'm not familiar with all of the pies listed, but I think I'd go for the blueberry pie.
Best wishes,

Re: Cake vs. Pie
Blueberry pie ranks pretty high on my list, but not as high as the rhubarb. In fact, I'm stuck at the final round, unable to decide whether my all-time favorite is pineapple-upside-down cake or rhubarb pie.
I guess I'll have to have another piece of each before I'm able to decided.

Re: Cake vs. Pie
Seed no2 on the Pie side of the draw is CheeseCAKE. Was it relegated to the Pie side for some past indiscretions in bribing the judges?

Re: Cake vs. Pie
Despite the name, cheesecake doesn't usually have the structure of a cake. On the other hand, Boston cream pie is more a cake than a pie...

Re: Cake vs. Pie
Now I'm hungry for yummy fattening foods and it's all your fault! I reckon I'd go for German Chocolate cake with Caramel Icing. On the pie side Pecan is my choice of those listed. But one of my all time favorite is Strawberry pie! And I like to pile on whipped cream!Samantha wrote:Which one is your all-time winner?
It is a requirement that cakes and pies must be served with excellent

Re: Cake vs. Pie
Just going with the "basics" I'd have to say Key Lime Pie and Carrot Cake.
But there are so many different, heavenly concoctions I've had at fancy restaurants, by 5 star pastry chiefs that it's not a fair comparison.
But, I will be happy to judge any competition that may be organized.

Re: Cake vs. Pie
Can we add an Australian (or New Zealand) pavlova to the pie side of the contest?
For me, that would win. I've never made one successfully, but my sister-in-law is a great pavlova cook.
