We have been using Front Page 2000 forever but would like to upgrade to something a bit more recent (and less buggy.)
I have read that Front Page has been discontinued and that Microsoft recommends Expression Web as a substitute. Does anyone have any experience with this program or a suggestion for an alternative web design program?
Thanks, in advance.

Re: Replacement for Front Page?
If you want to try something free, I recommend KompoZer, the latest stable version is 0.7.10, with version 0.8 currently in the beta stage.

We use Expression Web 3.0 and like it a lot. It produces standards conformant web sites unlike Frontpage.

Thanks for the replies.
I tried Kompozer (can't beat the price
) and apparently had a number of existing HTML issues on one page that FP had let slide.
Interesting!

Re: Replacement for Front Page?
Try WYSIWYG Web Builder Ver6.5 not free but inexpensive for what it can do. Now it's more compliant to html standards and a lot more. Give it a whirl you may like it. When you are at it check out the many cool Extensions. It feels like working on a page layout software (what you see is what you get). If you are a coder then there are options to add your codes as well.
It is not similar to Frontpage though.

Thanks, jolas.
Maybe we'll give WYSIWYG Web Builder 6 a 30 day try.

Carol,
This software looks interesting, especially in view of its many nifty extensions. Did you go for a trial? If so, how did you like it?Carol W. wrote:Maybe we'll give WYSIWYG Web Builder 6 a 30 day try.

Re: Replacement for Front Page?
The free SharePoint Designer seems to have most of the functionality that used to be in FrontPage. I don't know how well it works if your target isn't a SharePoint site, but it is certainly worth trying for that price.

Re: Replacement for Front Page?
Hopefully without some of the FrontPage flaws? Like bloated code, needs FrontPage extensions on the server, tables are fixed width, only looks great on MS IE, etc.? Just curious.StuartR wrote:The free SharePoint Designer seems to have most of the functionality that used to be in FrontPage.

Re: Replacement for Front Page?
I did try it and eventually got it. It is really easy to use specially the wysiwyg part and the extensions are great plus the fact that price is right. The program is now more compliant with html standards so websites created using this program are browser friendly. And if you like to code then there are places to plug our codes as well. Great program for people who are comtemplating on creating their first visually appealing website much like using a desktop publishing software.
